Role: Software Engineer Department: Data Platform Location Hayes Valley, San Francisco, CA ## Basic Job Details Job Type: Full Time Work Model: Hybrid Remote Days: Monday & Friday Office Days: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday Job Description As a Software Engineer on our Data Platform team, you will design, build, and maintain the core data infrastructure that powers Baton's near real-time streaming platform. You'll own data pipelines end to end from ingestion through processing to consumption, and work closely with data stakeholders across engineering, product, and ML to translate complex data challenges into scalable, maintainable solutions. Baton's data platform is the backbone of intelligent freight operations at Ryder scale, and this role exists to accelerate its growth. You'll take ownership of our streaming and messaging architecture, contribute to data model development, and refine the API layers that surface data across the organization. Working within a high-trust, high-autonomy team, you'll move fast, operate in production from day one, and build systems that directly impact how Ryder and its 50,000+ customers plan and execute freight. ## Responsibilities - Design and maintain a robust data streaming and messaging architecture. - Ownership of our near real-time data streaming platform. - Act as a technical liaison to ensure alignment of data strategies with business goals. - Take charge of the entire data landscape, encompassing near real-time data ingestion, sophisticated processing, and efficient data consumption strategies. - Collaborate closely with data stakeholders to simplify and solve complex data challenges, transforming them into scalable and maintainable technical solutions. - Everything from developing and maintaining data pipelines, enhancing data models, to refining API layers. Required Qualifications - Data Systems Expertise - Demonstrates experience with real-time data systems - Relational table modeling and Event driven pipeline architecture - Working familiarity with SQL: Query Performance Analysis, Optimization, and Construction - Python Proficiency - Advanced proficiency coding in python ## Preferred Qualifications - Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field - 3-5 years of Software Engineering experience, with a preference for backgrounds in event-driven architecture or real-time data streaming - Demonstrated interest or experience in the freight and logistics industry, with a keen understanding of its data-driven challenges and opportunities. - Strong foundation in data analytics and big data technologies, with the ability to leverage these skills to drive insights and operational efficiencies.
