We provide APIs, which streamline the integration of these functionalities, ensuring they are secure and effective. This enables better, safer, and more reliable communication within apps. Supporting over 100,000 developers and collaborating with more than 900 companies globally, Nylas plays a pivotal role in how digital communication tools are built and utilized. Our technology spans various sectors, from healthcare to education, simplifying the complex process of app development related to communications. By reducing the barriers in communication technology, we empower developers to innovate and enhance user interaction across platforms. ## ABOUT THE TEAM At Nylas, we are building the infrastructure that powers modern communications. Our APIs and platform help developers integrate email, calendar, scheduling, contacts, notetakers, and agent accounts into their applications without managing the complexity underneath. The Nylas Dashboard is the control plane for that platform. It is where customers create applications, connect accounts, configure domains, manage grants, debug issues, explore product capabilities, monitor logs, and understand how their integrations are performing. As Nylas continues to evolve for an AI-native future, the Dashboard must evolve with it. We are turning it from a traditional admin surface into a fast, intuitive, intelligent product experience that helps developers ship faster, understand what is happening across their integrations, and confidently operate full-stack communication workflows. ## ABOUT THE ROLE We are looking for a Software Engineer to help build and modernize the Nylas Dashboard and the full-stack product surfaces that surround it. This individual will be primarily responsible for the Nylas Dashboard, but the scope extends beyond frontend pages. You will work across the stack, owning the user-facing surfaces, APIs, services, data models, product workflows, and internal platform patterns that make Nylas easier to use and easier to build on. This is a foundational role for someone who wants to shape how developers interact with Nylas in the AI era. You will help transform the Dashboard into a polished, reliable, AI-native control plane that supports core Nylas products, including Email, Calendar, Scheduler, Notetaker, Transactional Send, Inbound Email, and Agent Accounts. You will partner closely with product, design, backend engineering, platform engineering, and go-to-market teams to ship experiences that feel fast, coherent, and deeply useful to technical users. ## WHY THIS ROLE IS DIFFERENT This is not a narrow frontend role, and it is not limited to a single product surface. You will own critical product surfaces that every Nylas customer touches. You will help define the patterns other teams build within. You will work on the Dashboard shell, navigation, shared components, product pages, backend APIs, authorization flows, observability surfaces, onboarding experiences, and agent-powered workflows. The person in this role should be excited by the idea of making Nylas feel more modern, cohesive, fast, and AI-native. You should care about developer experience, product craft, system design, and the operational details that make complex platforms feel simple. If you want to help modernize a developer platform for the AI future we are already in, this role is for you. ## WHAT YOU’LL DO - Build and own core Dashboard infrastructure, including the application shell, navigation, layout patterns, shared components, and product surfaces used across Nylas. - Design and implement full-stack product experiences across frontend, backend APIs, data models, permissions, service integrations, and deployment paths. - Modernize the Nylas Dashboard into a fast, polished, cohesive control plane for developers and technical teams. - Build AI-native and agent-facing experiences that help users configure products, understand errors, debug integrations, apply best practices, and operate Nylas more effectively. - Work across Nylas product areas, including Email, Calendar, Scheduler, Notetaker, Inbound Email, Transactional Send, Domains, Logs, and Agent Accounts. - Partner with backend and platform teams to design clean APIs and service boundaries that support excellent user experiences. - Drive performance as a product feature. Profile, measure, and optimize Dashboard interactions so the product feels fast and responsive. - Create reusable abstractions and shared patterns that help other engineering teams ship product surfaces consistently. - Improve onboarding, activation, self-serve configuration, troubleshooting, and product discovery across the Dashboard. - Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate implementation, improve quality, explore product behavior, and help define how AI fits into Nylas’ engineering workflows. - Ship incrementally and continuously, using customer feedback, product intuition, and technical judgment to improve the platform every week. - Collaborate closely with Design, Product, Customer Success, Solutions Engineering, and Developer Relations to translate customer feedback into product improvements. ## WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR - 4+ years of experience as a software engineer building user-facing products. - Strong full-stack engineering experience, especially with modern frontend development using React, TypeScript, and component-driven architecture. - Experience building backend APIs, services, data models, and integrations that power production product experiences. - A strong product mindset. You care about usability, information architecture, developer experience, performance, and the details that make software feel excellent. - Experience building products for developers, technical users, internal platforms, or complex B2B SaaS workflows. - Systems thinking. You naturally create reusable abstractions, composable components, shared patterns, and clean APIs rather than one-off solutions. - Comfort working in ambiguous product areas. You can take a rough problem statement, clarify the goal, make pragmatic tradeoffs, and turn it into shipped software. - Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with product, design, backend engineering, platform engineering, and customer-facing teams. - A bias toward shipping. You move quickly, iterate based on feedback, and hold a high bar for quality without getting stuck in long planning cycles. - Experience using AI tools in your own development workflow, with opinions on how they should improve engineering productivity and product experiences. ## NICE TO HAVE - Experience working on dashboards, developer portals, control planes, admin surfaces, or platform products. - Experience with Next.js, GraphQL, REST APIs, Go, gRPC, Postgres, Redis, or cloud-native service architectures. - Experience building observability, logging, debugging, billing, authentication, authorization, or configuration surfaces. - Experience working on horizontal platform teams where other engineering teams build on top of your infrastructure. - Experience building agent-powered products, AI-assisted workflows, or LLM-powered developer tools. - Experience working with design tools such as Figma and v0. - Contributions to open source projects, especially in the React, TypeScript, frontend infrastructure, or developer tooling ecosystem. ## INTERVIEW PROCESS (SUBJECT TO CHANGES) - Round 1 - The Intro: 30 minute discussion with the Hiring Manager - Round 2 - The Deep Dive: 60 minute live technical assessment - Round 3- The Loop: A series of 45-minute chats with the team (max 3 hours) where we look for the "what, why, and how" behind your best work. During the various discussions, candidates selected to meet with us are strongly encouraged to not only discuss their knowledge, skills, experience, and abilities but also to showcase examples of their current or previous work. We expect you to clearly outline the "what," "why," and "how" behind your contributions. Actual compensation will be determined based on individual qualifications, which are objectively assessed during the interview process. Factors influencing salary include knowledge, skills, experience, and abilities. Nylas is registered as an employer in many, but not all, states/provinces. If you are not located in or able to work from a state/province where Nylas is registered, you will not be eligible for employment.
