With AI redefining the computing paradigm, solutions must evolve to unify innovations in software models, compilers, platforms, networking, and semiconductors. Our diverse team of technologists have developed a high performance RISC-V CPU from scratch, and share a passion for AI and a deep desire to build the best AI platform possible. We value collaboration, curiosity, and a commitment to solving hard problems. We are growing our team and looking for contributors of all seniorities. As an Intern Software Engineer on the Debug team, you will help build tools and workflows that turn failures in AI workloads into actionable root-cause information. You will work close to Tenstorrent hardware and system software, developing tools that inspect device state, registers, memory, RISC-V cores, logs, traces, and other diagnostic signals. Your work will support hardware bring-up, software development, CI diagnosis, and debugging of workloads on current and next-generation architectures.  This is a hands-on systems software role involving C++, Python, Linux, testing, and collaboration across hardware and software teams. The internship is for a minimum of 3 months, with the potential for extension to 6 months. This role is onsite in our Belgrade, Serbia office.  We are currently hiring for our Fall term (October 2026 - January 2027). ## What You Will Do - Tooling & Architecture: Develop and extend low-level debugging tools (e.g., tt-exalens, tt-triage) and adapt debug flows for new hardware architectures. - Failure Investigation & Triage: Investigate system hangs, timeouts, and crashes, isolating root causes across software, firmware, networking, and hardware layers. - System State Diagnostics: Build tools to expose hardware and software state, including registers, memory, RISC-V cores, callstacks, buffers, and queues. - Automation & Testing: Enhance automated CI/development triage, write regression tests, and convert recurring investigations into reusable diagnostic artifacts. ## What You Bring - Education & Mindset: Pursuing a BS or MS in CS, CE, EE, or a related field, with a methodical debugging approach and strong interest in software-hardware interactions. - Core Systems Knowledge: Solid understanding of OS, memory, concurrency, and architecture, with beneficial exposure to embedded systems, RISC-V, firmware, or assembly. - Programming & Scripting: Experience in C++ (or another systems language) alongside Linux, shell scripting, or Python for automation, tooling, and testing infrastructure. - Debugging & Diagnostics: Exposure to low-level tools (GDB, LLDB, perf, strace) or experience with performance profiling, tracing, log analysis, and failure triage. ## What You Will Learn - How AI workloads execute on custom accelerator hardware, from host software to device execution. - How to debug complex failures using registers, memory, callstacks, logs, traces, and counters. - How low-level debugging and automated triage systems are built for developers and CI environments. - How hardware, firmware, runtime, compiler, and infrastructure teams work together to diagnose complex systems. Tenstorrent offers a highly competitive compensation package and benefits, and we are an equal opportunity employer. This offer of employment is contingent upon the applicant being eligible to access U.S. export-controlled technology. Due to U.S. export laws, including those codified in the U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR), the Company is required to ensure compliance with these laws when transferring technology to nationals of certain countries (such as EAR Country Groups D:1, E1, and E2). These requirements apply to persons located in the U.S. and all countries outside the U.S. As the position offered will have direct and/or indirect access to information, systems, or technologies subject to these laws, the offer may be contingent upon your citizenship/permanent residency status or ability to obtain prior license approval from the U.S. Commerce Department or applicable federal agency. If employment is not possible due to U.S. export laws, any offer of employment will be rescinded. ## About Tenstorrent University Jobs ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Tenstorrent designs high‑performance RISC‑V CPUs and tensor‑based AI processors, and develops open‑source software to unlock the next wave of AI innovation. - **Entity Type**: Private (funding stage not disclosed in provided sources) - **Headquarters**: Multiple locations, including Santa Clara, California, USA and Toronto, Ontario, Canada; additional offices in Austin, Boston, Fort Collins, Belgrade, Warsaw, Bengaluru, Beijing, Pangyo, and Tokyo. - **Founded**: Not specified in provided sources - **Founders**: Not specified in provided sources ## Core Business - **Primary industry/industries**: Semiconductor design / AI hardware accelerators / RISC‑V CPU architecture - **Target customers**: B2B – hyperscalers, AI research labs, enterprises deploying AI inference and training workloads, and OEMs looking for alternative AI compute platforms - **Mission/purpose statement**: “We build RISC‑V CPUs, Tensor AI processors, and open‑source software to unlock the next innovations in AI.” (from [tenstorrent.com](https://tenstorrent.com/en/university)) ## Products & Services - **RISC‑V CPUs**: High‑performance, custom CPU cores designed from scratch for modern AI and general‑purpose workloads. - **Tensor AI Processors**: Accelerators that combine tensor compute with a novel data‑flow architecture to deliver orders‑of‑magnitude performance and efficiency improvements for machine learning. - **Open‑Source Software Stack**: Includes the **TT‑Metal** runtime, an **AI compiler**, **scale‑out fabric** software, and integrations with leading ML frameworks (PyTorch, etc.).
