We are expanding the team of talented scientists who seek to build the future of small molecule drug discovery with creativity and innovation. Position Summary We are seeking a Senior Scientist, Pharmacology to provide scientific and technical leadership within our Pharmacology team. This role will design, conduct, and interpret preclinical in vivo and in vitro studies to support lead optimization and progression of pipeline assets toward investigational new drug (IND)-enabling studies. Responsibilities include applying knowledge of G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling pathways, conducting studies using rodent models to evaluate changes in body weight, body composition, and glycemic control, and documenting study results and recommendations to inform compound selection and development decisions. ## Key Responsibilities - Lead the strategy for in vivo pharmacology across obesity and metabolic programs. Translate target biology into robust translational screening cascades and lead optimization workflows. - Design, execute, and oversee complex mouse and rat models (from early discovery to IND-enabling studies). Evaluate pathway-specific biology, receptor internalization kinetics, PD markers, and efficacy readouts to establish clear PK/PD relationships. - Work closely with Biology, Medicinal Chemistry, DMPK, Toxicology, and Translational Science teams to drive candidate selection, nominate development candidates, and support IND filings. - Direct and oversee CRO activities for study design, model development, and execution, ensuring high scientific quality and timely data delivery. - Regularly synthesize and present scientific findings to cross-functional program teams and maintain electronic data management ## Minimum Qualifications - Ph.D. in Pharmacology, Physiology, Biology, or a related life sciences discipline, and at least 5+ years of relevant experience. - 2+ years of working experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry. - Demonstrated ability to independently design and conduct in vivo studies, analyze and interpret results, and communicate findings and recommendations. - Experience performing mouse and rat handling, dosing, blood collection, and tissue collection procedures. - Experience conducting pharmacology studies to support small molecule drug discovery. - Experience coordinating studies with contract research organizations (CROs), including defining study requirements and reviewing deliverables. - Experience using statistical analysis and data visualization tools, such as GraphPad Prism or Excel, and tools for metabolic profiling. - Experience contributing pharmacology data and recommendations to development candidate nomination, coordinating external research partners, and supporting IND-enabling activities. ## Preferred Qualifications - Experience designing, conducting, or interpreting studies involving GPCR pharmacology, regulation of energy balance, or endocrine signaling pathways. - Experience using or interpreting data from diet-induced obesity (DIO), genetic obesity, insulin resistance, or related metabolic disease models. - Experience supporting IND-enabling studies through study planning, data analysis, or preparation of study reports. Pay Range $148,757 - $168,800 The annual base salary range listed above represents the lowest and highest amounts we reasonably and in good faith expect to pay for this position at the time of posting. An individual’s starting base salary within this range will be based on relevant experience, job-related skills, and education relevant to the role. In addition to base salary, this position offers bonus and equity opportunities, as well as benefits. Benefits: Superluminal offers a comprehensive benefits package that fully covers employees’ annual deductibles and monthly premiums for medical, dental, and vision insurance. The package also includes a 401(k) match program, a Massachusetts transportation subsidy, equity, unlimited paid time off, and both disability and life insurance. Equal Opportunity Statement: Superluminal Medicines is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to a culturally diverse workforce. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race; color; creed; religion; national origin; age; ancestry; nationality; marital, domestic partnership or civil union status; sex, gender, gender identity or expression; affectional or sexual orientation; disability; veteran or military status or liability for military status. ## About Superluminal Medicines, Inc. ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Superluminal Medicines is a drug discovery company integrating AI/ML, protein dynamics, and structural biology to rapidly develop small molecule therapeutics targeting challenging G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) for cardiometabolic diseases and obesity. - **Entity Type**: Private (Convertible Note financing round; total funding $158M as of 2026) - **Headquarters**: Boston, Massachusetts, United States (15 Necco Street, 4th Floor) - **Founded**: 2022 - **Founders**: Not publicly disclosed ## Core Business - **Primary Industry**: Biotechnology / Drug Discovery & Development - **Target Customers**: B2B partnerships with large pharmaceutical companies (e.g., Eli Lilly) and, ultimately, patients with cardiometabolic conditions and obesity - **Mission / Purpose**: “Revolutionizing the speed and accuracy of how medicine is created” by combining generative biology and chemistry with AI-driven computational methods. ## Products & Services - **Hyperloop™ Platform**: An integrated drug discovery platform that merges structure-based drug discovery, machine learning, proprietary big data infrastructure, and experimental validation to generate candidate-ready small molecule compounds targeting GPCRs. (SaaS/internal tool – not sold externally) - **Pipeline – MC4R Agonist**: A selective, biased MC4R agonist advancing to IND-enabling studies for the treatment of obesity. - **Other pipeline programs**: Undisclosed GPCR targets for cardiometabolic diseases, developed in collaboration with Eli Lilly. ## Market Standing - **Valuation**: Not publicly available - **Key Metric**: Total funding raised – $158M (CB Insights estimate) - **Notable Investors/Partners**: Eli Lilly and Company (collaborator and equity investor), RA Capital Management, Insight Partners, Gaingels, NVentures (NVIDIA’s venture arm) - **Growth Signals**: - Announced a multi-target collaboration with Eli Lilly worth up to $1.3B in upfront, near-term, milestone payments, equity investment, and tiered royalties. - Biased MC4R agonist moving into IND-enabling studies. - Active hiring: 5+ open positions in Machine Learning, Protein Design, Computational Chemistry, HR, and Finance. ## Competitive Advantages - **Hyperloop Platform**: Combines deep biology/chemistry expertise with AI and proprietary big data in a single, rapid iteration cycle – enabling candidate-ready compounds at unprecedented speed. - **GPCR Focus**: Specialization in the most challenging GPCR targets, a proven class for drug development but historically difficult to modulate selectively. - **Big Pharma Backing**: Strategic collaboration with Eli Lilly provides significant funding, validation, and potential for rapid clinical development. ## Strategic Focus - Advance the MC4R agonist and other pipeline candidates through IND-enabling studies and into clinical trials. - Expand the Hyperloop platform’s application to additional GPCR targets and disease areas beyond cardiometabolic indications. - Leverage AI/ML and structural biology to compress traditional drug discovery timelines from years to months. ## Why Work Here - **Culture**: Core values emphasize urgency (speed to patients), resilience, collaboration, transparency, and compassion.
