We’ve built a free web browser that blocks creepy third-party ads and trackers by default, a private search engine with a truly independent index, a browser-native crypto wallet, and a private ad network (opt-in!) that directly rewards you for your attention. And we’re just getting started. Already 110+ million people have switched to Brave for a faster, more private web. Millions more switch every month. The internet is a sea of privacy-harmful ads, hackers, and echo chambers. Big Tech makes huge profits off our data, and tells us what’s true and what’s not. Brave is fighting back. Join us! Responsibilities include: - Security reviews of Brave products - Triaging and fixing security reports - Designing and implementing security-relevant code - Penetration tests of Brave products and infrastructure Brave is [widely-recognized](https://www.pcmag.com/picks/stop-trackers-dead-the-best-private-browsers) as one of the best browsers for security and privacy, doing industry-leading work with a team that’s a fraction of the size of Big Tech-supported browsers. Required qualifications - At least 5 years experience (or equivalent) in security engineering - Experience in penetration testing and/or security auditing - Proficiency in C++, both implementing and reviewing - Strong familiarity with the Web security model - Experience securing AWS infrastructure - Very comfortable working and communicating async with a geographically-distributed software development team - Be comfortable diving into an extremely large, unfamiliar and complex codebase - Be comfortable with Git and collaborating on GitHub ## Preferred qualifications - Experience contributing to large open source codebases and/or participating in open source communities - Proficiency in Web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) - Proficiency in Go and Rust - DevOps experience - Contributions to other Web browsers - Familiarity with Chromium's architecture, especially security - Ability to write clear technical documentation and less technical writing for blog posts or public communication. - Be excited about privacy, anonymity, and censorship resistance! ## About Brave ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Brave develops a privacy-first web browser and independent search engine that blocks ads and trackers by default, while offering a suite of tools including AI, VPN, crypto wallet, and an advertising platform. - **Entity Type**: Private (funding details not publicly disclosed) - **Headquarters**: San Francisco, California, USA (with an additional office in London, UK) - **Founded**: 2015 - **Founders**: Brendan Eich (creator of JavaScript, co-founder of Mozilla) and Brian Bondy (formerly of Khan Academy and Mozilla) ## Core Business - **Primary industry**: Internet software – privacy-focused browser, search engine, and advertising. - **Target customers**: B2C (consumers seeking private browsing) and B2B (advertisers through Brave Ads, developers via the Brave Search API). - **Mission**: “To build a user-first Web” – countering Big Tech’s data exploitation by giving users privacy, speed, and independence. ## Products & Services - **Brave Browser**: A Chromium-based desktop and mobile browser that blocks invasive ads, trackers, cross-site cookies, fingerprinting, and more by default. Available on Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, and Windows. - **Brave Search**: An independent search engine powered by its own web index – one of only three global-scale indexes outside of Big Tech. Includes AI-powered answers (Summarizer) and a conversational interface (Ask Brave). - **Brave Search API**: A publicly available API that provides real-time, independent search data for AI applications and other search tools. Used by Cohere, Mistral, Perplexity, You.com, and others. - **Brave Ads**: A private advertising network that offers high ROI for advertisers while respecting user privacy. Users can opt in to view ads and earn Basic Attention Token (BAT). - **Brave Leo**: An AI assistant built directly into the browser. Can answer questions, summarize pages, generate content, translate, write code, and more. Supports multiple models including Anthropic’s Claude and Meta’s Llama. - **Brave Wallet**: A browser-native, multi-chain crypto wallet for NFTs, DApps, and DeFi, with low fiat-to-crypto fees. - **Brave VPN**: A secure, built-in VPN that hides IP address and masks location. - **Brave Talk**: Browser-based encrypted video calling (peer-to-peer). - **Brave Rewards / BAT**: Users earn Basic Attention Tokens for viewing privacy-respecting ads, and can use them to support content creators. ## Market Standing - **Valuation/Market Cap**: Not publicly disclosed. - **Key Metric**: Over 100 million monthly active users (MAU) worldwide, 42 million daily active users (DAU), and 1.6+ billion queries per month as of early 2025. - **Notable Investors/Partners**: Partnerships include AI companies like Cohere, Mistral, Perplexity, and You.com (via Search API). Other partners are not detailed in public materials; press contacts available for inquiries. - **Growth Signals**: Surpassed 100M MAU in 2025; Search API usage growing at an exponential rate; continuous expansion of language support (50+ for browser, 40+ for Search); new AI features (Leo, Summarizer) driving adoption. ## Competitive Advantages - **Independent search index**: Brave Search is the only global-scale search engine not influenced by Google or Microsoft. - **Privacy-by-default**: Unlike other browsers, Brave blocks ads, trackers, and fingerprinting out of the box – no extensions needed. - **Integrated AI**: Leo offers a private, account-free AI assistant directly in the browser, with no data retention for model training. - **Token ecosystem**: BAT and Brave Rewards create a unique economic model that directly compensates users and content creators. - **Multi-product suite**: Browser, search, VPN, wallet, video calls – all in one app with a consistent privacy focus. ## Strategic Focus - **Growing the Search API**: Making Brave’s independent index available to AI and search applications at competitive pricing. - **Advancing AI capabilities**: Expanding Leo’s models and features (e.g., memory, temporary chats, language support) while maintaining privacy. - **Increasing user base**: Continuing to grow beyond 100M MAU through word-of-mouth, partnerships, and default search settings. - **Monetizing without compromising privacy**: Scaling Brave Ads and premium offerings (Brave Premium, VPN) while keeping core products free. ## Why Work Here - **Culture & mission**: Employees are driven by the mission to fix the internet’s privacy problems and take on Big Tech. - **Remote & hybrid options**: Many roles are fully remote (US and global), with hybrid options for London and San Francisco offices. Some positions (e.g., Workplace Operations Coordinator in London) require in-office presence. - **Engineering excellence**: Described as a “world-class engineering, security, and research team” – notable for working on cutting-edge browser internals, AI, and blockchain/crypto. - **Diversity & inclusion**: Brave is an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and does not discriminate. - **Global team**: Employees work from around the world; offices in San Francisco and London. - **Typical perks**: Not explicitly listed, but the company offers a modern tech stack, opportunities to work on open-source (Chromium), and the chance to shape the future of the web. ## Sources 1.
