The company has delivered more than 15 million sessions of mental health care, published more than 35 peer-reviewed studies, and delivered unmatched outcomes in terms of access, clinical effectiveness, and cost efficiency. Extensive peer-reviewed research confirms Lyra’s transformative care model helps people recover twice as fast and results in a 26% annual reduction in overall healthcare claims costs. Lyra is transforming access to life-changing mental health care through Lyra Empower, the only fully integrated, AI-powered platform combining the highest-quality care and technology solutions. Lyra is looking for an exceptional Staff Software Engineer to accelerate how Lyra itself works. We care deeply about making a difference in people's lives and hope you do too! Our goal? To embed AI into the daily workflows of teams across the company, from engineering and operations to clinical support functions, so that Lyrians spend less time on repetitive work and more time on what matters: getting people the mental health care they need. This is not a platform team role at arm's length from its users. You will embed directly with internal teams, sit with them to understand how work actually gets done, identify the highest-leverage opportunities, and then design, build, ship, and iterate on AI-powered solutions in production. You own outcomes, not just code: adoption and measurable efficiency gains are the finish line, not the deploy. We care deeply about making a difference in people’s lives and hope you do too! This role can be carried out (hybrid) from our South San Francisco, CA headquarters, OR virtual (remote candidates must be based in the United States). Responsibilities: - Embed with internal teams across the company to map their workflows, identify bottlenecks, and scope AI-driven solutions with clear, measurable efficiency outcomes - Take ownership of the full lifecycle: from discovery and prototyping through deployment, adoption, measurement, and iteration - Build and continuously improve AI-powered tools, agents, and automations, integrating with our Python and Java-based microservices, our web and mobile apps, and third-party systems - Drive the continued integration of agentic software development across engineering, expanding adoption, elevating our technical capabilities, and acting as a force for innovation - Evaluate emerging AI tools, models, and patterns; run fast experiments and convert the winners into durable internal capabilities - Define and track the metrics that prove impact (time saved, throughput, quality, cost) and communicate results to stakeholders and leadership - Work with fellow engineering team members to collaboratively create and refine technical designs and solutions - Collaborate with key partners including data science, product management, design, security, and operational and behavioral health teams - Follow and promote best practices during all phases of software development, adhering to the highest quality and security standards, including the responsible handling of sensitive data in AI workflows Qualifications: - BS in CS or related technical field - 8+ years of experience developing enterprise or consumer web applications, ideally using Python or Java/Spring - Hands-on experience building with LLMs in production: agentic tools and frameworks, prompt and context engineering, evals, and development workflows using Claude and Codex - Demonstrated ability to work directly with non-engineering stakeholders: eliciting requirements, translating ambiguous business problems into shipped software, and driving adoption of what you build - Strong judgment about where AI genuinely helps versus where it adds risk or noise, especially in a healthcare context - Must be highly proactive and a self-starter. This role has unusual autonomy: you will often be the one deciding what to build next, and everyone at Lyra contributes to design, product, front-end, back-end, and quality ## About Lyra Health ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Lyra Health is a global workforce mental health care company that provides fast access to evidence-based therapy, coaching, psychiatry, and specialty care for employees and their families. - **Entity Type**: Private (Series F, $910.1M total funding) - **Headquarters**: Burlingame, California, United States - **Founded**: 2015 - **Founders**: Not publicly listed (executive team led by CEO Jennifer Schulz) ## Core Business - **Primary industry/industries**: Mental Health Care, Employee Benefits, Healthcare IT - **Target customers**: B2B – employers, health plans, health systems; also serves benefits consultants and providers - **Mission or purpose**: To help people live better lives by transforming access to life-changing mental health care. ## Products & Services - **Lyra Core Platform**: AI-powered provider matching, digital self-paced resources, skill-building programs, and evidence-based coaching for preventive support. - **Therapy & Psychiatry**: 1:1 evidence-based therapy, medication management, and personalized provider support for a wide range of mental health needs. - **Centers of Excellence (COE)**: Specialized in‑house care for pediatrics, adolescents, neurodiversity, and complex/severe conditions (e.g., suicide prevention, intensive outpatient programs). - **Family Support**: Tailored care for children, teens, adults, couples, and families, with access to over 6,500 children’s mental health specialists. - **Organizational Well-Being Tools**: Dashboards, assessments, crisis support, and data insights for HR leaders to execute workforce mental health strategy. - **Lyra AI**: Clinically‑grade AI to accelerate triage, provider matching, and care coordination (launched 2025). ## Market Standing - **Valuation/Market Cap**: Not publicly disclosed (private company) - **Total Funding**: $910.1M raised across 8 rounds (latest Series F, amount undisclosed) - **Annual Revenue**: $243M (LinkedIn estimate, 2024/2025) - **Notable Investors/Partners**: Workday Wellness (preferred mental health partner), One Medical; investors include prominent VC firms (names not explicitly listed in search results, but known from prior reports – e.g., IVP, Addition, Meritech, etc.) - **Growth Signals**: Headcount grew 16% YoY to 2,155 employees; serves 20M+ members globally with pathways for 200M+ people; acquired Bend Health (July 2025) to expand pediatric mental health; 97% member retention with first provider; published outcomes show 2x faster recovery and 26% reduction in healthcare claims costs. ## Competitive Advantages - **Largest dedicated global provider network**: 30,000+ evidence‑based clinicians under annual clinical oversight. - **AI‑powered matching**: Clinically rigorous AI enhances triage and coordination, leading to high member stickiness and faster recovery. - **Peer‑reviewed outcomes**: Extensive published research demonstrating measurable ROI for employers (≈4 hours regained productivity/week/employee, $4,800 annual savings). - **Comprehensive, integrated care**: Spans prevention, acute care, and specialty – without third‑party referrals – covering pediatrics, neurodiversity, and complex conditions in‑house. ## Strategic Focus - **AI‑led innovation**: Continues to invest in Lyra AI to scale personalized care and build workforce resilience. - **Pediatric & family expansion**: Acquisition of Bend Health and launch of Pediatric COE positions Lyra to address the youth mental health crisis. - **Global reach**: Expanding provider network and employer contracts across 37+ countries. - **Partner ecosystem**: Deepening integrations with platforms like Workday Wellness to embed mental health into broader benefits ecosystems. ## Why Work Here - **Culture**: “Put clients first” and transparency are core values; emphasis on innovation and excellence with humility. - **Compensation**: Generous base salary, 401k with up to 3% matching, and equity options for all employees. - **Time off**: Guilty‑free paid time off including 4 weeks vacation plus paid holidays. - **Health & wellness**: Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, free One Medical membership, and full access to Lyra’s mental health services for employees and dependents at no cost. - **Perks**: Tech stipend to set up your home office; remote/hybrid options available (many clinical roles are 1099 or remote). - **Career growth**: Rapidly growing company (16% YoY headcount increase) with 400+ open positions across clinical, engineering, product, and corporate functions. - **Work environment**: Distributed across 37 countries with hubs in the US, India, UK, South Africa, and Spain – offers flexibility. ## Sources 1.
