Our team owns the full customer journey — from the moment a prospect sees a demo to the day they're a fully onboarded, thriving customer — and everything in between. At Abnormal, we keep our customers — ranging from Global 2000 organisations to small businesses — safe from complex, cutting-edge attacks that could cause financial loss and disrupt business operations. Our novel approach to email security, account takeover detection, and other use cases has made us one of the fastest-growing security companies of all time, with 15%+ of the Fortune 500 among our customers. As we cement our leadership in email security, expanding our product portfolio is the next bold chapter — and our team is at the centre of it. Few roles let you work at this many levels simultaneously. Day to day, you will partner directly with engineering and product leaders across the R&D organisation — shaping the roadmap, making the hard architectural calls, and being the person the team looks to when the path forward isn't obvious. What you build won't live in the background: it will be the foundation that tens of thousands of users interact with, the infrastructure that powers Abnormal's growing App Store, and the self-serve experience that makes onboarding and offboarding seamless for our customers. Beyond the technical depth, you'll operate at the intersection of product strategy, distributed systems, and international expansion — shaping how Abnormal enters new markets, serves the public sector, and reaches customers across segments. The problems are genuinely hard, the stakes are real, and the team around you is strong. If you've been looking for the role where you finally get to build at full scale — with the autonomy to architect boldly and the context to make decisions that stick — this is it. ## What You Will Do - Lead and mentor a team of 15+ engineers, raising the technical bar while helping individuals grow into the best versions of their engineering careers. - Drive the evolution of the Abnormal customer journey as we expand into international markets, enter the public sector, and serve new market segments. - Own and develop complex, customer-facing features that simplify the Abnormal experience for the world's largest organisations. - Define and uphold SLAs for our systems while maintaining a high standard for operational excellence — reliability is not optional at our scale. - Partner with internal stakeholders and external customers to gather feedback and iterate quickly, turning insight into shipped product. - Shape a team culture that engineers are proud to be part of, and a hiring process that leaves candidates with a positive impression of Abnormal — regardless of outcome. This is a leadership role. You will contribute both code and guidance — you are accountable for delivering great solutions and for improving the team around you. Must Haves - 8+ years of experience designing and building web and distributed applications, deployed across multiple data centres. - 2+ years at staff level, with a track record of working across teams, mentoring senior engineers, and delivering high-impact outcomes. - Demonstrated experience leading multi-quarter, customer-facing projects from inception through to stable, high-quality operation. - Strong experience collaborating across multiple cross-functional teams (Engineering, Product, Design, and beyond). - Deep, well-formed opinions on technical excellence — spanning design, development, code quality, testing, debugging, and production operations. - BS degree in Computer Science, Applied Sciences, Information Systems, or a related engineering field. ## Nice to Have - Experience in cybersecurity or security-adjacent products. - Background at enterprise-level SaaS companies. - Familiarity with our stack: Python / Go, TypeScript, React / Redux, AWS, Kubernetes. ## Why Abnormal Abnormal AI is a mission-driven company at an inflection point. We're not just adding features — we're expanding the frontier of what enterprise security looks like, and doing it at the speed the threat landscape demands. You'll work with people who care deeply about craft, take ownership seriously, and believe that great engineering and great security are inseparable. ## #LI-AB2 A note on AI in our process: Abnormal AI uses AI-assisted tools to help our recruiting team prepare for candidate interviews. Further, if your application is successful and Abnormal AI makes a conditional offer of employment, we will carry out pre-employment checks which must be successfully completed to progress to a final offer. All processes and pre-employment checks are in line with prevailing legislation and Abnormal AI's policies relevant to our security and privacy standards. The company has stopped millions of attacks and saved billions in financial losses. - **Notable Investors/Partners**: Insight Partners, Greylock Partners, Menlo Ventures, CrowdStrike Falcon Fund (strategic investor) - **Growth Signals**: The company is AI-native from day one, with revenue growing rapidly. It is expanding its platform from email security into identity, insider threat, and AI governance. Headcount has grown significantly, and the company continues to hire across engineering, GTM, and operations. ## Competitive Advantages - **Behavioral AI Moat**: Unlike signature-based or rules-based security tools, Abnormal builds a unique behavioral baseline for every organization and user. This allows it to detect novel attacks that no other vendor sees. - **AI-Native Operations**: The company doesn't just build AI products—it runs its entire business (product, CS, finance, HR) with AI agents, compounding its speed of innovation. - **Deep Enterprise Trust**: Over 25% of the Fortune 500 give Abnormal the authority to autonomously make security decisions, a level of trust very few vendors achieve. - **Founding Team Origins**: Founders came from adtech (building anomaly-detection AI at scale) rather than traditional cybersecurity, giving them an outsider's perspective that led to the behavioral AI approach. ## Strategic Focus - **Platform Expansion**: Moving beyond email security into identity, insider threat, and AI security, building a unified behavioral security platform. - **AI-First Product Development**: Using AI agents to compress product development cycles from quarters to weeks, rapidly launching new products. - **Operational Efficiency**: Embedding AI across every internal function to drive automation and efficiency, allowing the company to scale without linear headcount growth. - **Market Leadership**: Capitalizing on the wave of AI-generated attacks to position behavioral AI as the only viable defense. ## Why Work Here - **Remote-First Culture**: From day one, Abnormal has been remote-first. Employees have the choice to work from home, from hub offices, or from co-working spaces (WeWork). Async work is the default, with deliberate synchronous overlap time. [abnormal.ai](https://abnormal.ai/careers/culture) - **High Autonomy, High Accountability**: No micromanagement. Clear expectations. Growth is based on impact, not tenure or title. "You don't wait your turn." [abnormal.ai](https://abnormal.ai/careers/culture) - **AI-Native Work Environment**: Every employee, regardless of role, gets access to the best AI tools and is expected to use them. The company rebuilds work processes around what AI makes possible—not by bolting AI onto old workflows. [abnormal.ai](https://abnormal.ai/careers/culture) - **Compressed Growth Timeline**: Because everything moves fast with AI, impact that would take quarters elsewhere happens in weeks. One person can do what used to take a team. Outsized impact is rewarded proportionally. [abnormal.ai](https://abnormal.ai/careers/culture) - **Transparent and Direct Culture**: "We say what's true, even when it's uncomfortable." Leaders are accessible, teams share learnings openly, and new hires get real ownership immediately. [abnormal.ai](https://abnormal.ai/about) - **Notable Perks**: Compensation is tied to impact, not role. The company offers flexibility as infrastructure, not a benefit. Employees see direct results from their work in a fast-growing, mission-driven company. ## Sources 1. [Abnormal AI - Official Website](https://abnormal.ai/) 2.
