Tax Manager - LATAM ## Role is based in Mexico City The Tax Manager will support Crunchyroll’s Global Indirect Tax function, with a primary focus on indirect tax compliance, strategy, and operations across the LATAM region. This role is responsible for preparing and filing tax returns, ensuring compliance with local and international tax laws & regulations, and helping the organization optimize tax liabilities through proper planning and strategy. The Tax Manager works closely with the Global Tax team located in San Francisco. This role will report to the Director of Tax in the US. ## Key Responsibilities Tax Preparation & Review - Prepare, review, and oversee global indirect tax filings, with dedicated oversight of LATAM regional VAT/GST and digital services tax compliance. - Manage non-resident VAT registrations and routine filings for Crunchyroll US in Mexico and other applicable LATAM jurisdictions. - Review financial records and transaction data to ensure accurate calculation of indirect taxes, withholdings, and digital streaming tax obligations. Tax Compliance - Monitor global and LATAM indirect tax legislation updates, including regional e-invoicing requirements, to ensure business compliance. - Lead the tax strategy, systems readiness, electronic invoicing updates, and operational compliance for Brazil’s Dual VAT Reform, ensuring seamless transition for non-resident digital services. - Support tax compliance for Crunchyroll’s local entity transfer pricing structure, ensuring accurate intercompany transaction and basic statutory reporting. - Prepare indirect tax schedules, provisions, and inputs for parent company reporting, including Pillar II and other indirect tax data requirements. - Maintain organized indirect tax documentation, workpapers, and compliance records across assigned LATAM markets. Tax Accounting & Reconciliations - Perform core monthly, quarterly, and annual general ledger (GL) reconciliations for all indirect tax accounts across assigned global and LATAM entities. - Prepare and post tax journal entries, accruals, and monthly tax reconciliations between general ledger financials and tax return compliance filings. - Reconcile intercompany indirect tax charges and verify proper tax accounting for cost-plus transaction entries between Crunchyroll US and Crunchyroll Mexico. - Ensure strict indirect tax accounting compliance with US GAAP, local GAAP, and internal SOX control standards. Audit & Regulatory Support - Manage indirect tax audits, authority inquiries, and routine notices across LATAM (including SAT in Mexico) in close coordination with the US Global Tax team. - Coordinate with regional external tax advisors and service providers across LATAM markets for compliance and advisory mandates. - Prepare supporting workpapers, GL reconciliation schedules, and documentation required by external auditors and global tax leadership. Tax Advisory & Strategic Analysis - Evaluate and provide technical tax inputs on the global and regional indirect tax implications for new product launches, platform features, and streaming offerings. - Review and advise on cross-border licensing agreements, content acquisition, and commercial partnership deals to optimize indirect tax structuring and withholding exposures. - Analyze and assess indirect tax requirements, registration thresholds, and compliance risks related to expansion into new international markets and territories. - Perform variance analysis between tax GL balances and submitted tax returns to identify and resolve reporting discrepancies. - Evaluate indirect tax liability trends and tax GL movements under Brazil's evolving Dual VAT rate structures and credit rules. Leadership & Collaboration - Serve as a key regional subject matter expert within the Global Tax team, collaborating with Accounting, Legal, Product, Engineering, and business teams. - Communicate complex global and LATAM indirect tax regulations (such as Brazilian VAT reform updates and transaction tax impacts) clearly to non-tax internal stakeholders. ## Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Tax, Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent experience. Certifications (Preferred) - CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or equivalent professional tax certification. ## Experience - 5+ years of progressive experience in indirect tax (VAT/GST) accounting, compliance, and advisory, preferably within a Big 4 firm, multinational tech, or digital media company. - Hands-on experience advising business teams on tax implications for new product launches, commercial licensing deals, and international expansion. - Hands-on experience with core tax accounting, journal entries, and GL account reconciliations for indirect taxes. - Strong experience with LATAM indirect tax frameworks, with Mexico as the base of expertise and at least one other LATAM country (e.g., Brazil, Colombia, Chile, or Peru), particularly regarding cross-border digital services. - Working knowledge or direct involvement in preparing for Brazil’s indirect tax reform (CBS/IBS) and legacy Brazilian indirect taxes (PIS/COFINS, ISS/ICMS). - Direct experience managing non-resident VAT/GST registrations and filings across LATAM jurisdictions. - Basic familiarity with intercompany service charges and cost-plus operating models. - Experience operating under US GAAP and local GAAP environments. ## Skills - Strong technical background in indirect tax accounting, month-end closes, GL reconciliations, and commercial tax advisory. - Solid technical knowledge of global VAT/GST principles, LATAM digital services taxation, and electronic invoicing requirements. - Deep understanding of LATAM tax dynamics, including the operational impact of Brazil’s Dual VAT system transition. - Proficiency in ERP systems (NetSuite preferred), automated indirect tax engines, and e-invoicing platforms. - Advanced Excel and financial data reconciliation skills. - Strong analytical, organizational, and cross-functional project management abilities. - Professional fluency in both Spanish and English with excellent written and verbal communication skills. ## About our Values We want to be everything for someone rather than something for everyone and we do this by living and modeling our values in all that we do.
