The Therapist II provides therapeutic intervention, advanced counseling, and recovery-oriented clinical services to individuals and families receiving behavioral health services. The Therapist II plays a critical role in supporting each client’s journey toward recovery from mental illness, physical illness, and substance use. This position works collaboratively with clients, families, and an interdisciplinary treatment team to develop person-centered goals, provide effective clinical interventions, coordinate care, and promote continuity of services within the agency and community. Our clinical approach is grounded in the Recovery Model, emphasizing hope, empowerment, self-determination, peer support, respect, empathy, strengths-based care, and the belief that recovery is possible for every person we serve. ## Key Responsibilities - Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments to identify clients’ mental health, substance use, and related needs. - Develop appropriate treatment goals and therapeutic interventions based on client strengths, needs, preferences, and clinical assessments. - Provide individual, group, and family counseling, psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral interventions, task-centered treatment, crisis intervention, and other appropriate clinical services. - Serve as an OMHC Treatment Coordinator, collaborating with the interdisciplinary treatment team to provide integrated, recovery-oriented services. - Establish positive, therapeutic relationships with clients, families, coworkers, community partners, and other stakeholders. - Review clinical records, psychiatric evaluations, rehabilitation plans, referrals, and other relevant documentation to inform treatment. - Explain behavioral health programs, services, and procedures to clients, staff, families, and community organizations. - Provide preventive, supportive, and crisis services to clients experiencing situations that may negatively affect their health, safety, or well-being. - Coordinate discharge planning and facilitate continuity of care by connecting clients and families with appropriate community-based resources and services. - Complete timely and accurate clinical documentation in accordance with agency policies, state and federal regulations, COMAR requirements, and applicable accreditation standards. - Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with agency policies and professional ethical standards. - Participate in cross-coverage and on-call responsibilities as needed. - Participate in departmental meetings, agency activities, committees, and quality improvement initiatives. - Evaluate clinical service objectives and outcomes and contribute to program development and continuous quality improvement. - Provide age-appropriate care and demonstrate knowledge of human growth and development across the lifespan. - Maintain professional development through continuing education, training, supervision, peer consultation, and other learning opportunities. - Participate in the education and training of allied health professionals and, when appropriate, counseling interns. - May perform administrative duties supporting the Outpatient Mental Health Clinic (OMHC). - Perform other related duties as assigned. The Therapist II should consistently demonstrate these principles in clinical practice and interactions with the people we serve. ## Qualifications Required - Master’s degree in professional counseling, social work, or a related field from an accredited educational institution. - Current Maryland behavioral health professional licensure/credential as applicable, including one of the following: - Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) - Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) - Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) - Licensed Certified Social Worker–Clinical (LCSW-C) - Candidates who have submitted evidence of application for the applicable Maryland licensure examination may also be considered, as permitted by applicable requirements. - Knowledge of generally accepted clinical counseling practices and behavioral health treatment approaches. - Ability to assess client needs, develop treatment goals, provide therapeutic interventions, and coordinate services. - Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, organizational, and documentation skills. - Ability to work independently with general supervision and manage competing priorities in an environment with frequent interruptions. - Proficient computer skills.
