We harness data, AI, and digital twins to enable faster, more robust studies that bring life-saving treatments to patients faster. This mission drives everything we do as we partner with biopharmaceutical companies to redesign how clinical trials are planned, run, and analyzed. We are defining the future of clinical development with unmatched scientific credibility, replacing uncertainty with AI-powered precision so decisions are clearer and trials are stronger. We don’t just disrupt the pharmaceutical industry, we create lasting change. We believe AI will define the future of medicine, and we are committed to building that future responsibly, rigorously, and in close collaboration with our partners in clinical development. ## About Our Team We come from a variety of backgrounds ranging from machine learning to marketing—but regardless of where we come from, Unlearners share some common traits: - Unlearners are ambitious; we aren’t intimidated by big, challenging goals. - Unlearners are disciplined experimenters; we break down our big goals into smaller chunks and meet as often as necessary to track our velocity and iterate quickly. - Unlearners are gritty; we never give up, setbacks just make us try harder. - Unlearners are receptive to new ideas; in fact, we hate being stuck with the status quo - Unlearners are storytellers; sharing information with each other and with the world is super important, too important to be boring. And, last but not least, - Unlearners are team-oriented; we put the mission first, the company second, the team third, and individuals last. Headquartered in San Francisco, Unlearn was founded in 2017 by a team of world-class machine learning scientists. We have raised venture capital from top tier investors such as Altimeter, Insight Partners, Radical Ventures, 8VC, DCVC, and DCVC Bio, and completed our $50 million Series C in January 2024. If our purpose and culture resonate with you, we invite you to apply. ## Your Role Leading Pharma and Biotech companies trust Unlearn to deliver scientifically rigorous work using digital twins on studies where the stakes are high and the timelines are real. A digital twin of a patient is a comprehensive prediction of expected outcomes under a defined standard of care, made by a machine learning model built using our proprietary technology. That work is done by our scientific delivery teams, with expertise spanning biostatistics, data science, clinical science, and machine learning. As the VP of Clinical Solutions, you will lead an organization of scientists and technical leaders across a wide array of active customer projects with different timelines, needs, and opportunities. This role sits at the intersection of scientific leadership and operational excellence. On one side, you will develop technical teams through hands-on people leadership, technical governance, and deep domain judgment about what rigorous clinical and scientific delivery work looks like. On the other, you will keep delivery on track across a growing portfolio, resourcing projects effectively as we scale, and partnering across functions to solve problems before they reach customers. You will report to the COO and be responsible for meeting business goals in Delivery that ensures that Unlearn increases its leadership and reputation as a best-in-class innovator and scientific partner. ## Responsibilities - Lead Unlearn's scientific delivery organization and own the quality, timeliness, and scientific rigor of customer-facing delivery work across a portfolio of concurrent projects. - Partner closely with Business Development, Product, Engineering, R&D, and Quality Management to shape scopes of work, resolve cross-functional blockers, feed delivery learnings back into the product, and ensure what we sell is what we can deliver excellently. - Serve as a senior scientific voice with customers: stepping into escalations, building trust with sponsor teams, and representing the credibility of Unlearn's science in clinical development settings. - Develop technical team leaders through direct people leadership, mentorship, and career development. - Establish and uphold technical governance: standards, review practices, and quality frameworks that ensure our statistical analyses, data products, and ML applications meet the bar our customers and regulators expect. - Own delivery operations at scale: project staffing and resourcing, capacity planning, prioritization across competing customer demands, and delivery processes that keep a growing portfolio on track without burning out the team. - Report regularly to company leadership on delivery health, capacity, and portfolio risk; manage the growth of delivery commitments so that we scale ambitiously without over-committing resources, and escalate risks early and transparently. - Build the systems, metrics, and delivery models that maintain quality while we continue to grow. ## Requirements - 10+ years leading scientific or analytical delivery work in clinical development, with significant experience operating at the Senior Director or VP level with responsibility for multi-disciplinary technical teams. - A track record of leading data analytics, biostatistics, data science, or related delivery organizations serving biopharma customers—for example at real-world data (RWD) companies, CROs, or analytics-driven clinical development partners. Direct ML delivery experience is a plus, but deep respect for and fluency with quantitative methods is essential. - Demonstrated scientific leadership: you have grown individual contributors into technical leaders, and you can provide credible technical guidance and governance across biostatistics, data science, and ML without needing to be the deepest expert in each. - Strong operational skills: you have kept complex, concurrent customer delivery portfolios on track, resourced projects effectively under real constraints, and scaled delivery teams and processes as demand grew. - Domain knowledge of clinical development: study designs, clinical data, sponsor expectations, and the regulatory and evidentiary standards that govern our customers' decisions. - Experience reporting to executive leadership on delivery capacity, growth, and risk: you manage commitments realistically, say no when the math doesn't work, and surface problems early rather than letting them compound. - Comfort operating cross-functionally with Business Development, Product, Engineering, R&D, Quality Management, and customer stakeholders, and translating fluidly between technical and non-technical audiences. - Experience in growth-stage or early-stage companies to build a stronger delivery model while running it. ## Benefits & Perks The following benefits and perks are for full time roles only. - Meaningful equity participation - 100% company-covered medical, dental, & vision insurance plans - 401k plan with matching - Flexible PTO plus company holidays - Annual company-wide break December 24 through January 1 - Commuter benefits - Paid Parental Leave Unlearn is an equal opportunity employer. At Unlearn, we are committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace, because inclusion and diversity are essential to achieving our mission. If you’re excited about this role, and your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply nevertheless. ## About Unlearn ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Unlearn uses AI and digital twins of clinical trial participants to enable faster, smaller, and more robust studies for biopharma companies. - **Entity Type**: Private (Series C) - **Headquarters**: San Francisco, California, United States - **Founded**: 2017 - **Founders**: Aaron Smith, Charles Fisher, Graham Siegel, Jonathan Walsh ## Core Business - Primary industry/industries: Clinical research technology, AI-driven drug development, biotech - Target customers: Biopharmaceutical companies, contract research organizations (CROs), clinical trial sponsors - Mission or purpose statement: "To transform clinical development by making every trial smarter" – harnessing data, AI, and digital twins to bring life-saving treatments to patients faster. ## Products & Services - **TwinRCT**: A randomized controlled trial enhanced with AI-generated digital twins to increase statistical power, reduce control arm size, and shorten enrollment time. - **PROCOVA**: A methodology that uses prognostic scores from digital twins to improve the precision of treatment effect estimates. - **Digital Twin Generators**: AI models trained on historical patient-level data to predict individual health outcomes over time. - **TrialPioneer** (launched Jan 2026): An AI-powered workspace for upstream trial planning, enabling teams to compare trial-design scenarios, evaluate endpoints, and simulate outcomes before protocol finalization. - **SimLab**: A tool within TrialPioneer to build and compare trial-design scenarios with linked evidence. - **Scout**: Continuous literature and regulatory surveillance from PubMed, ClinicalTrials.gov, and drugs@FDA to align on precedent. - **Hindsight**: Exploration of harmonized clinical trial and real-world datasets to validate assumptions about population characteristics, endpoints, and benchmarks. - **Regulatory Services**: Support for navigating FDA and EMA guidelines to qualify twin-based approaches (EMA qualified, aligned with FDA guidance). ## Market Standing - **Valuation/Market Cap**: Not publicly disclosed - **Key Metric**: Total funding of $134.8M; latest Series C of $50M (February 2024).
