The round was led by Vineeta Agarwala, MD, PhD, of Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), and is the largest investment to date from a16z's bio + health team. [Read the announcement.](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/general-medicine-raises-120-million-to-build-the-healthcare-store-302899356.html) Healthcare needs a store. People should be able to see prices, understand their options, and get advice from clinicians as easily as they shop for anything else. That's what we're building, and this Series B will help us expand the store and reach more customers across the United States. To learn more, read CEO TJ Parker's [post on LinkedIn](https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7513259806867185664/) and the a16z team's [post on Substack](https://www.a16z.news/p/investing-in-general-medicine). If this sounds interesting, we're hiring. Help us build the store. ## About General Medicine General Medicine is building a healthcare store that makes it delightfully simple to access the best care in the world. We make it easy for customers to shop for any product or service in healthcare, compare upfront cash and insurance prices, understand if the service is right for them and purchase it. Behind that simplicity is complex infrastructure: payer integrations, pricing logic, eligibility systems, reconciliation workflows, and financial rails. We're building the system that makes transact-able healthcare possible. ## The Role We're hiring a VP Product to build our product function from the ground up. This is the founding product leadership seat: you'll set how we roadmap, how we prioritize, how ideas get pitched and greenlit, and how product and engineering work together, before writing most of that playbook yourself. This role reports directly to the CPO and sits on the senior leadership team. You'll own the roadmap across consumer experience, clinical/provider tooling, and pricing and payer infrastructure, allocating engineering capacity across these areas. You will drive priorities and build alignment across the CPO, Medical Director, and senior leadership team. ## What You'll Do Build the function - Establish the product org: hiring, processes, review cadences, and operating rhythms - Establish how we write specs, define success metrics, run experiments, and decide what to build next - Define complex initiatives—such as new consumer experiences, payer integrations, or clinical workflows. Turn those into execution plans with clear owners. Own the roadmap - Set and evolve a product roadmap across multiple focus areas at once, balancing consumer experience, clinical delivery, and the pricing and payer infrastructure underneath both - Allocate engineering capacity and justify trade-offs across competing priorities - Balance near-term delivery with core architecture and infrastructure needs Sell the vision - Develop business cases for proposed features, including resource needs, expected outcomes, and timing - Champion initiatives with the CPO, Medical Director, CFO, and VP Engineering - Communicate product strategy internally to cross-functional teams and externally to partners, payers, and investors Ship - Write specs, review designs, and resolve day-to-day blockers for engineering - Partner with engineering leadership on sprint planning, sequencing, and capacity estimation using customer and care-team insights ## What We're Looking For You have founder or early product leadership experience taking products from 0 to 1. You have acquired initial users, pitched stakeholders, and established core operational workflows in ambiguous environments. Specifically: - You've built and shipped a product from 0 to 1, whether as a founder, an early product hire, or in a similarly ownership-heavy role - Demonstrated ability to build data-backed business cases and secure buy-in from leadership - You've managed a roadmap across more than one workstream at a time and made real tradeoffs about where limited engineering capacity goes - You've built product process and team structure from scratch rather than inheriting it - You come from a startup background and are comfortable with ambiguity, thin resourcing, and moving fast - Clear written and verbal communication skills to align engineering, clinical, and business stakeholders Nice to have: - Healthcare, healthtech, or another regulated-industry background - Experience in a marketplace or two-sided business model - A quantitative or technical background that lets you go deep with engineering when needed This is a hybrid role in SF ## How We Work - Customer obsessed: We stay close to real needs through thoughtful research and continuous feedback from our care teams - the same instinct that shapes how you'll sequence and ship the roadmap above. - Design led & data informed: We seek simplicity, ship craftsmanship, and validate with data. - Operationally grounded: We build tools that make our care teams faster and more accurate, not just prettier. ## About General Medicine ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: General Medicine is a digital health platform that connects patients to a nationwide network of clinicians and specialists for transparent, on-demand primary care, lab testing, and prescription services. - **Entity Type**: Private (Venture Capital-Backed, Early Stage VC) - **Headquarters**: San Francisco, California, USA (corporate office also listed in Salt Lake City, Utah) - **Founded**: 2024 - **Founders**: Ashwin Muralidharan (CEO) and Elliot Cohen (Executive Chair) ## Core Business - **Primary industry**: Digital Health, Telemedicine, Information Services (B2C) - **Target customers**: B2C (individuals seeking convenient, transparent healthcare), with potential future B2B/enterprise partnerships - **Mission or purpose statement**: "Raising your standard of care" – to deliver clear, proactive, and tailored healthcare that is accessible and affordable for everyone. ## Products & Services - **General AI**: An AI-powered chatbot that provides health insights based on user history and helps guide next steps, from booking a visit to ordering labs. - **Primary Care (Virtual)**: On-demand consultations with board-certified clinicians for everyday needs (flu, prescriptions, referrals). - **Lab Testing**: Direct ordering of 100+ lab tests with transparent, up-front pricing (cash or insurance accepted). - **Specialist Referrals**: Coordinated access to over 40 clinical specialists, with rapid turnaround (hours, not months). - **Prescription Services**: Clinicians write and send prescriptions to the user’s pharmacy. ## Market Standing - **Valuation/Market Cap**: Not disclosed - **Key Metric**: Total funding raised $32M (Early Stage VC, May 2025) - **Notable Investors/Partners**: BoxGroup, Founder Collective, JSL Health Capital, Matrix, Solari Capital (6 investors total); Lead Investor TJ Parker (co-founder of PillPack) - **Growth Signals**: 53 employees (as of 2025), active hiring for 17+ positions (2026), launched full labs experience (Aug 2025), growing job postings (+30.8% quarterly), strong LinkedIn engagement with events and thought leadership. ## Competitive Advantages - **AI‑first triage**: Proprietary "General AI" that listens and guides patients, reducing friction and improving access. - **Transparent, up‑front pricing**: No hidden fees; cash and insurance prices shown before booking. - **Integrated specialist network**: Direct coordination with 40+ specialists, enabling faster, more comprehensive care than traditional telehealth. - **Founding team & investor credibility**: Led by ex‑PillPack and Amazon Pharmacy executives (Ashwin Muralidharan, Elliot Cohen, TJ Parker), providing deep domain expertise. ## Strategic Focus - **Scaling AI capabilities**: Deepening the "General AI" experience to handle more complex health queries and triage. - **Expanding service lines**: Growing lab testing, specialist referrals, and potentially in‑person care partnerships. - **Building a distributed clinical workforce**: Hiring remote physicians and nurse practitioners across the US. - **Product and engineering growth**: Active recruiting for full‑stack, mobile, and frontend engineers to build the consumer platform. ## Why Work Here - **Culture**: Mission‑driven team focused on "raising the standard of care" with compassion, clarity, and proactive support.
