Operations is the function that solves whatever is slowing the company down. An operations manager owns a process or a business area and makes it run smoothly, whether that is onboarding customers, planning across teams, or keeping the go-to-market engine efficient. The field is wide: it covers program and project management, business operations, revenue operations, people operations, and procurement, each with different day-to-day work.

### How do I get into operations?

Many people start as an analyst or coordinator and grow into owning a process, then a whole area. Others switch in from consulting, finance, or a role they came to know well enough to systematize. What teams look for is someone who can take a messy problem and turn it into a system that runs without them. Comfort with data and a bias for follow-through matter more than any single credential.
