Backend Engineer at HUMAN (Tel Aviv, Israel)
HUMAN· Tel Aviv, Israel·
Role details
Job description
HUMAN’s Application Protection products safeguard online businesses and their customers from sophisticated bots, fraud, and abuse. The Enforcers team builds the software that connects customer traffic to HUMAN’s real-time detection platform and applies protection decisions directly within customers’ environments. Our components run across CDNs, cloud and serverless platforms, web servers, and application frameworks, making performance, reliability, security, and portability central to everything we build. We are looking for a Backend Software Engineer to join the team and help develop the integration and enforcement layer behind HUMAN’s products. You will work on production software deployed in diverse environments, solve complex web and infrastructure challenges, and own features from design through delivery and operation.
What you’ll do
- Design, build, and maintain backend and edge components that integrate HUMAN’s detection and enforcement capabilities into customer environments.
- Develop reliable, secure, and maintainable services and SDKs, primarily using JavaScript and TypeScript.
- Own the full software lifecycle, including technical design, implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
- Optimize performance and reliability for latency-sensitive components that operate directly in the request path.
- Solve portability and integration challenges across different platforms, runtimes, and customer architectures.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Security Research, Customer Success Engineering, and other Engineering teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
- Investigate complex production and customer-integration issues and turn what you learn into product and engineering improvements.
Who you are
- 4+ years of hands-on software development experience, with a focus on backend or platform engineering.
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript, including experience building and maintaining production systems with Node.js.
- Solid understanding of backend engineering fundamentals, HTTP-based services, APIs, and web infrastructure.
- Experience writing clean, testable, and maintainable code and taking ownership of features through production.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate unfamiliar systems and complex technical issues.
- Comfortable working independently while collaborating effectively across teams and disciplines.
- Curious and adaptable, with an interest in learning new platforms, runtimes, and programming languages.
Nice to have
- Experience with content delivery networks such as Cloudflare, Fastly, Akamai, or AWS CloudFront.
- Familiarity with cloud, serverless, or edge-computing environments.
- Experience with one or more additional languages such as Go, Rust, C, or C++.
- Deeper knowledge of HTTP, networking, reverse proxies, web servers, or technologies such as NGINX and Kubernetes.
- Experience developing SDKs, developer tools, integrations, or software deployed in customer-controlled environments.
- Background in cybersecurity, bot mitigation, fraud prevention, or other latency-sensitive security products.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools and workflows to improve engineering productivity.
