Job description
About Aspora
People on the move deserve a bank that moves with them. Since 2022, Aspora has been building a borderless financial operating system that makes money as mobile and transparent as its users. Backed by influential venture capitalists like Sequoia Capital, Greylock Partners, Hummingbird Ventures, Y Combinator & Global Founders Capital. We're a team of 150+ across India, the UK, the UAE, EU and the US, working with extreme ownership, radical candour, and an obsession with customer impact. We celebrate builders who question assumptions, ship fast, and turn regulatory complexity into elegant solutions. If you’re driven to redefine what global banking can be, we’d love to build the future with you.
About the Role
This role exists to own Aspora's full compliance mandate for its Lithuanian EMI licence. Compliance at Aspora is not a back-office function. It is a core part of how we operate, expand, and earn trust. You will be the primary face to the Bank of Lithuania and the internal authority on what the business can and cannot do. That means setting the framework, testing the controls, and advising directly on new products and partnerships before they launch. You will work closely with the CEO, Management Board, and MLRO.
What You'll Own
- Own the full compliance mandate for Aspora's Lithuanian EMI: monitoring adherence to EMD2, PSD2, AML/CTF, sanctions, and consumer protection requirements end-to-end.
- Lead the supervisory relationship with the Bank of Lithuania: examinations, information requests, and all regulatory correspondence.
- Build and maintain the internal compliance framework: policies, procedures, controls, and testing across governance, consumer protection, and conduct of business.
- Drive risk-based compliance reviews and thematic checks to stress-test controls including AML/CTF, sanctions, and outsourcing arrangements, and lead remediation where gaps surface.
- Advise the CEO, Management Board, and business units on compliance implications of new products, partnerships, and market expansion decisions.
- Build compliance culture across the organisation through training programmes, incident investigation, and board-level reporting on breaches and remediation.
Who You Are
- Significant compliance experience at an EMI, payment institution, bank, or regulated fintech: ideally with direct exposure to the Bank of Lithuania or another EU competent authority.
- Deep working knowledge of EMD2, PSD2, the Lithuanian Law on Electronic Money and EMIs, AML/CTF, sanctions, and EBA guidelines on outsourcing.
- Have owned regulator relationships directly: examinations, supervisory correspondence, and information requests under your name.
- Can move between strategic board-level advice and hands-on control testing without losing either.
- High ownership. You treat compliance gaps as yours until they are closed.
- Suitable for fit and proper assessment and approval by the Bank of Lithuania as a key function holder.
- Fluent Lithuanian and English required. A compliance or AML certification (CAMS, ICA) is a strong advantage.
Why Aspora
- Own the compliance infrastructure for Aspora's EU regulated entity: this is not an inherited, mature framework. You define it.
- Be the compliance lead at the intersection of a global fintech expanding its regulated European footprint — your decisions directly shape what Aspora can build and where.
- Work directly with the CEO and Board on compliance strategy, without layers in between.
- Operate across jurisdictions as Aspora scales its regulated presence across the EU and beyond.
- Competitive salary, comprehensive benefits, and ESOPs aligned with Aspora's long-term vision.
Why work at Aspora
- High-Growth Environment: The company is in a rapid growth phase (200 employees, 7% monthly headcount growth, expanding to new countries). This offers significant career acceleration and ownership opportunities.
- Mission-Driven: Work on a product that directly helps the global Indian diaspora — a large, underserved, and emotionally resonant market.
- Modern Tech Stack: Uses a sophisticated stack including Python, Java, Spring Boot, Google Cloud Platform, Snowflake, Databricks, Apache Spark, Flink, Airflow, Terraform, dbt, and Looker. Strong emphasis on data engineering and platform engineering.
- Work Policy: Hybrid/In-Office model. London HQ, with offices in Bangalore (Bengaluru) and Dubai. BuiltIn indicates a mix of in-office and remote roles.
- Culture: Described as building "for the dreamers, the doers, the ones who see the world as their canvas." Focus on transparency, security, and customer obsession.
- Active Open Roles (as of mid-2026): Staff Engineer, Engineering Manager, Senior Software Engineer (Backend), Senior Data Platform Engineer, Senior Product Analytics, Head of Growth, Treasury Operations Lead, Group Chief Compliance Officer, Personal Banking Manager, and more.
