Job description

Cobalt Service Partners

Cobalt Service Partners is building a leading commercial access and security integration platform in North America, backed by Alpine Investors. We are growing through acquisition across the country, and we hire Controllers on an ongoing basis to lead accounting operations at our operating companies. Because our businesses vary in size and stage, the exact scope, team, and reporting line for a given Controller seat differ by location. This posting builds our national pipeline; when a specific opening matches your background, our recruiting team will reach out to discuss the particular business, market, and scope.

The Role

In-Person  ·  Multiple U.S. Locations

Our Controllers own accounting operations for a single operating company: the financial close, payroll, internal and external reporting, the annual audit, and the financial analysis that informs operating decisions. Our companies are project-based, so revenue recognition, job costing, and cash discipline sit at the center of the work.

What You'll Own

  • Close & reporting. Run the monthly close and continuously improve its speed and accuracy.
  • Project revenue. Calculate and manage revenue recognition for projects and inventory, including percentage-of-completion and work-in-process, in line with ASC 606.
  • Job costing. Own job costing and margin visibility, partnering with operations on how jobs are performing.
  • Analysis & forecasting. Prepare financial reports and forecasts covering EBITDA, cash flow, and the analysis that highlights where leadership should focus.
  • Accounting maturity. Where applicable, help move a business from cash to accrual accounting and ensure a clean data transition.
  • Transactional finance. Ensure accurate payroll, AR, AP, and expense processing, delegating and overseeing the team where one exists.
  • GAAP discipline. Apply and reinforce GAAP across the accounting function.

What We're Looking For

  • Technical accounting experience, whether through public accounting, audit/assurance, or complex operational accounting.
  • Strong command of GAAP, including project revenue recognition (ASC 606), percentage-of-completion, and work-in-process accounting.
  • Experience across ERP and accounting platforms in a multi-entity or growing environment, with the ability to learn and work in new systems. Fluency in payroll and accounting tools (e.g., ADP-class payroll, mid-market ERPs) is valued.
  • Strong Excel and data-modeling skills (lookups, pivot tables, and comparable techniques).
  • Self-managing, well-organized, and a genuine self-starter who brings structure to ambiguity.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.

Preferred: direct experience at a construction or project-based company (100–200 employees) with complex inventory considerations; prior experience supervising others; CPA.

Why Cobalt

  • A high-growth, PE-backed platform where finance is close to the business and your work drives real operating decisions.
  • The chance to build and strengthen finance processes as we scale across a growing set of companies.
  • Competitive base salary and performance-based bonus, benchmarked to your market and the scope of the seat.
  • Full health benefits, 401(k) with match, paid time off, life and disability coverage, and professional development support.

Cobalt Service Partners and its operating companies are equal opportunity employers. Employment is at-will.
