Job description:

Position Summary:A Field Credit Investigation Officer is responsible for conducting in-person investigations and assessments to verify the creditworthiness of loan applicants. This includes validating personal and business information, evaluating the borrower’s capacity and character, and providing risk-based recommendations for credit approval.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field visits to applicants’ residences, businesses, and references
  • Interview applicants and third parties to verify employment, business operations, financial status, and personal character
  • Assess the five Cs of credit: Character, Capacity, Capital, Conditions, and Collateral
  • Perform ocular inspections of pledged collaterals and validate ownership and marketability
  • Gather photos, GPS coordinates, and documentation during field investigations
  • Prepare detailed credit investigation reports with findings and recommendations
  • Coordinate with the credit underwriting or loan approval team to provide updates and clarifications
  • Monitor the authenticity of submitted documents and detect signs of fraud
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy, ethical investigation standards, and institutional policies

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Criminology, or related field
  • At least 1–2 years of experience in credit investigation, field verification, or loan processing
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively
  • High sense of integrity, discretion, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Familiarity with local geography and communities is a plus

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in microfinance, rural banking, or consumer lending
  • Proficient in report writing and mobile data collection tools
  • Knowledge of fraud detection practices and red flags
  • Multilingual or local dialect proficiency (depending on location)
