Role details
Job description
Monumental is automating on-site construction with robotics and software. Our mission is to make construction software-defined and autonomous - a future where beautiful, bespoke buildings go up in a single day, with minimal labour.
We're a growing team of engineers, operators and technicians from companies like Palantir, Qualcomm, Dyson, Shopify, Tesla, Meta and Google DeepMind. It's still the early days of building the company, and this is a chance to make an outsized impact on a problem that matters. From day one, you’ll be working with an experienced founding team, backed by a $32M Series B led by Khosla Ventures and Plural.
Monumental is based in the city centre of Amsterdam, in a beautiful facility with an fully equipped workshop and robot testing floor. We build the whole stack in-house - hardware and software, we're explicitly not a hybrid or remote-first company - you can't build robots or walls from home, so we're onsite five days a week.

Why you should apply
Over the last century almost every industry has progressed while construction got slower, more expensive, and less beautiful than it used to be - despite making up 13% of global GDP. Europe needs over two million new homes a year joint-research-centre.ec.europa.eu and doesn't have the skilled trades to build them - the UK alone is short 20,000 bricklayers bbc.co.uk/c5yg1471rwpo for its housebuilding target.
In five years we've gone from designing autonomous bricklaying robots that work, through our first deployments, to building at scale monumental.co/projects with a fleet of 150+ robots averaging 20 systems building a week. We've laid brick walls for more than 100 homes, a community centre, a hotel and 150m of canal wall - half of everything we've delivered went up this year.
We build the whole stack in-house. Atrium monumental.co/atrium, our operating system for construction, runs design, simulation, computer vision and fleet control in one system. The robots are designed and manufactured at our facility in central Amsterdam.
We're a small, talent-dense team - many of us have founded companies before. We believe speed of iteration is the biggest lever on problems this hard, so we let the people closest to the work own the decisions. Almost all our energy goes into the product and the sites it runs on - not meetings about it.

If nothing on our jobs page seems like a fit, and you are interested in working here - tell us why. Some of our best hires arrived this way. We're always looking for engineers, operators and technicians, and for generalists who focus on outcomes and are eager to learn on the job.
Show us something you've built, quantify the impact, and tell us what you'd want to work on at Monumental, why you want to join and your CV or portfolio.
One thing to know before you apply: every role today is based in Amsterdam. The UK and US are close behind, with pilots and deployments underway and facilities to follow. If you're interested in any of those locations, tell us where in the form. We don't currently offer internship.
Joining Monumental means being at the forefront of a movement aimed at making significant strides in the construction industry. Here, your work has the potential to impact not just the company but the future of how we build. If you're driven by innovation, eager to tackle complex challenges, and ready to make a tangible difference, we want to hear from you.
