Job description

Hermeus is a venture-backed defense aviation company reclaiming the lost art of rapid iterative prototyping to build the fastest aircraft in the world today. By prioritizing relentless hardware iteration, we deliver high-speed systems at the pace of the modern battlefield. We work with the Department of War to provide the high-speed capabilities our nation and its allies need to maintain a durable, asymmetric advantage.

About The Role: Join our team developing cutting-edge software for the Quarterhorse supersonic unmanned aircraft. You'll work with C++ and web technologies (TypeScript/JavaScript) to build control systems for both remotely piloted (HOTAS) and autonomous flight modes. This role includes designing and implementing intuitive user interfaces, ranging from hands-on control to point-and-click autonomy management.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and implementation of flight software and guidance and control algorithms
  • Implement, integrate, and test control algorithms in simulation, embedded, and hardware-integrated environments
  • Assist with control law development, tuning, and validation for vehicle stability and performance
  • Develop software interfaces, messaging, and integrations between flight and mission subsystems
  • Analyze test data, troubleshoot system behavior, and support improvements to software and control performance
  • Collaborate across software, GNC, avionics, and vehicle engineering teams to validate integrated systems

Requirements:

  • Pursuing a degree in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Background in either software development with exposure to GNC/controls, or GNC/controls with experience implementing software
  • Experience with C++, C, Python, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar programming and engineering tools
  • Familiarity with controls, dynamics, simulation, embedded systems, or hardware/software integration
  • Hands-on experience through internships, coursework, research, or technical projects
  • Strong understanding of engineering first principles
  • Demonstrated ability to work within cross-functional teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • GPA of 3.0 or above

The hourly rate listed for this internship is intended as a general guideline. Final compensation will be determined based on degree level. Benefits: Time Off: Interns are eligible for 5 days of sick leave and unpaid time off. Office Perks: Weekly paid office lunches and fully stocked breakrooms.
