About us

At Trainline, our purpose is to empower greener travel choices, connecting people and places. Trainline enables millions of travellers to find and book the best value tickets across carriers, fares, and journey options through our highly rated mobile app, website, and B2B partner channels. Great journeys start with Trainline 🚄 We’re Europe’s leading independent rail platform, helping millions of travellers find and book the best-value rail and coach journeys across our app, website and partner channels. Our job is to make the green travel choice the best choice. By building a better train travel experience, we help more people choose rail - creating a positive impact for customers, our business and the planet. We’re a team of more than 1,000 Trainliners from over 50 nationalities, working across London, Paris, Barcelona, Milan, Edinburgh and Madrid. Now is a brilliant time to join us and help shape the future of travel. Introducing the Trainline Mobile Team 👋 Our Mobile Engineers build the travel companion in your pocket, the Trainline app. From the smart, seamless booking experience to the buy-flow that gets millions of people on their way, the team shapes how customers plan and take their journeys every day. You'll be joining the Trainline Media, focused on building new experiences and unlocking revenue opportunities beyond rail ticket sales. The team helps connect customers with relevant media, advertising and partner offerings throughout their travel journey, creating value for both our customers and the business. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape a growing area of Trainline, where engineering, product thinking and experimentation come together to deliver new experiences at scale and make a meaningful commercial impact. Engineers work in cross-functional squads made up of iOS, Android, Web and Backend colleagues. Each squad is led by an Engineering Manager and partners closely with a Product Manager. We value open collaboration and a welcoming environment where everyone's ideas are heard.

In this role as the iOS Engineer, you will... 🚄

  • Build and deliver new features for the Trainline iOS app, with a focus on Trainline Media and helping grow revenue beyond traditional rail ticket sales.
  • Help shape how media, advertising and partner experiences are integrated into the app, ensuring they are seamless, relevant and valuable to customers.
  • Work closely with Product Managers, Designers and engineers to experiment with new ideas, measure their impact and continuously improve the experience.
  • Champion quality in everything you and your squad build, from thoughtful testing to constructive code reviews.
  • Continuously improve the codebase, leaving it simpler, healthier and easier for everyone to work in.
  • Keep customers at the heart of your decisions, balancing great user experiences with new commercial opportunities.
  • Spot and help remove obstacles, delays and wasted effort, so your squad can keep moving smoothly.
  • Contribute to technical decisions by sharing your perspective and helping shape the direction of a growing product area.
  • Support your teammates through coaching and mentoring, helping others to learn and grow.
  • Take ownership of the development lifecycle from code to production, including deployment and monitoring.

We'd love to hear from you if you have... 🔎

  • Hands-on experience building and shipping iOS apps with Swift, SwiftUI and UIKit, and ideally some exposure to Objective-C.
  • A solid understanding of architectural patterns such as MVVM and Clean Architecture, and how to apply them to build scalable, maintainable and testable apps.
  • A genuine care for quality and for customers, with a track record of delivering reliable, well-tested features.
  • A thoughtful approach to engineering quality, including testing, code review, maintainability and continuous improvement.
  • Experience working in a cross-functional product team, collaborating with engineers, product managers and other partners to deliver customer-focused outcomes.
  • Helpful experience with tools and technologies such as SPM, Tuist, New Relic, ELK, Docker, Terraform or GitHub Actions.
