Lead System Testing Engineer at Noble Machines, Inc (Sunnyvale, CA)

Noble Machines, Inc· Sunnyvale, CA·

Job description

About Noble Machines

Noble Machines (formerly Under Control Robotics, UCR) builds general-purpose robots that take on hazardous and physically demanding industrial tasks, enabling a safer, more efficient, and more productive world. Our work demands reliability, robustness, and readiness for the unexpected—on time, every time. We're assembling a mission-driven team focused on delivering real impact in heavy industry, from construction and mining to manufacturing and energy. If you're driven to build rugged, reliable products that solve real-world problems, we'd love to talk.

Position Overview

At Noble Machines, building robots is a team sport. As a Lead Test Engineer, you will own the validation of our multipurpose humanoid robots across hardware, software, and AI systems. You will operate the robot directly to stress test real-world performance, design and execute test plans, analyze logs and data, and produce clear reports that enable engineers to improve reliability and capability.

This is a hands-on role focused on ensuring our robots are ready for deployment in demanding, production environments.

Responsibilities

  • Operate humanoid robots to execute functional, stress, and edge-case tests
  • Design and run tests covering mechanical, electrical, software, and AI behavior
  • Validate robot performance, safety, and reliability in lab and field environments
  • Document test procedures, results, failures, and observed behavior
  • Collect and analyze logs, telemetry, video, and AI outputs
  • Report clear, actionable findings to hardware, software, and AI engineers
  • Verify fixes and improvements through repeatable regression testing

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in robotics testing, systems testing, or hands-on technical roles
  • Experience operating complex hardware or robotic systems
  • Ability to design structured tests and clearly document results
  • Familiarity with testing or debugging hardware, software, and AI-driven systems
  • Comfortable working with logs, data, and basic analysis tools
  • Strong attention to detail and clear written communication
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, real-world environments

Nice to Have

  • Experience with humanoid, legged, or autonomous robots
  • Exposure to AI or autonomy testing (perception, planning, control, or decision-making)
  • Background in mechanical, electrical, or software engineering
  • Field testing or deployment experience in industrial environments
  • To apply, submit your resume here or email people@noblemachines.ai. We encourage candidates to include examples of hands-on testing, system validation, or field work demonstrating experience with complex robotic systems.

Why work at Noble Machines, Inc

  • Culture highlights: Mission-driven engineering culture focused on solving dangerous, real-world problems. Team composed of engineers from Apple, SpaceX, NASA, and Caltech.
  • Remote/hybrid/office policy: Not specified explicitly; likely on-site in Sunnyvale given hardware work.
  • Notable perks or engineering culture: Early-stage company building America’s first industrial humanoid robot; opportunity to work on full-stack robotics (hardware, autonomy, AI) with rapid iteration cycles; multiple roles currently open on Greenhouse (robotics learning, autonomy, mechatronics). Emphasis on hands-on field testing and customer collaboration.
