Functional Lead / Scrum Master (Pega)

Location: Remote (U.S. Based) Employment Type: Full-Time / Contract

Salary: $120,000-$130,000

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Functional Lead / Scrum Master to drive the successful delivery of enterprise Pega solutions from discovery through deployment. This role serves as the bridge between business stakeholders, product owners, and technical teams, ensuring requirements are clearly defined, priorities are aligned, and Agile delivery processes are executed effectively.

The ideal candidate possesses strong business analysis expertise, Agile leadership experience, and a proven track record of managing product backlogs, facilitating Scrum ceremonies, and driving successful software delivery within fast-paced environments.

Key Responsibilities

Product & Functional Leadership

  • Lead Pega product development initiatives from requirements gathering through solution delivery.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders and end users to identify needs, gather requirements, and document user stories.
  • Define and maintain clear acceptance criteria to ensure successful delivery outcomes.
  • Partner with Product Owners to prioritize product backlogs based on business value, risk, dependencies, and delivery timelines.
  • Analyze and optimize business processes, workflows, and operational procedures.
  • Conduct process mapping, fit-gap analysis, and business transformation activities.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and technical delivery teams.

Agile Delivery & Scrum Leadership

  • Serve as Scrum Master for Agile development teams operating in two-week sprint cycles.
  • Facilitate sprint planning, daily standups, backlog refinement sessions, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Remove impediments and proactively manage delivery risks.
  • Coordinate dependencies across teams and stakeholders.
  • Drive accountability and continuous improvement within Agile teams.
  • Track sprint progress and ensure timely completion of committed work.

Stakeholder Communication & Reporting

  • Develop and deliver sprint summaries, executive status reports, release notes, and project updates.
  • Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) activities and stakeholder demonstrations.
  • Communicate project status, risks, blockers, and mitigation strategies to leadership and clients.
  • Foster strong relationships with business partners, product owners, and technical teams.

Required Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience supporting:

  • 2+ years of experience serving as a Scrum Master in an Agile environment.
  • 2+ years of experience in:

  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and Scrum frameworks.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Pega implementations or enterprise software development initiatives.
  • Experience working within government, public sector, or highly regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with Agile project management tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar platforms.
  • Scrum Master Certification (CSM, PSM, SAFe Scrum Master, or equivalent).
  • Experience supporting digital transformation or modernization programs.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
