Job description
Who We Are
Provenir is the unified Decision Intelligence Platform that gives enterprises full control over end- to-end customer decisioning — to manage risk, drive growth, and transform business outcomes. By consolidating data, AI models, intelligence, agents and governance into a single decisioning environment, Provenir empowers business teams to configure and evolve strategy directly, while maintaining enterprise-grade reliability and regulatory compliance. Trusted by 120+ institutions in 60+ countries, Provenir processes over 4 billion decisions annually — turning architectural coherence into sustained risk performance and measurable value. Ready to solve meaningful challenges, work with enterprise customers, and help shape the future of AI-powered decisioning? Join us.
📍 Remote first – UK 🛠️ Python, SQL, graph analytics, identity/entity resolution, AWS 🚀 Own the strategy and build of our identity graph and graph-driven identity intelligence 🕛 Senior individual contributor – deep graph expertise, hands-on, with the ambition to grow a team 💰 Competitive compensation 💚 Fantastic benefits including Health Plans, WFH allowance and Macbook Pro
Provenir AI is part of the Provenir group, bringing together Data Science, Product and Engineering expertise to research, build and productionise the next generation of AI-powered decisioning capabilities. Our approach is agentic-first, combining agents, graph intelligence, predictive models and Generative AI within governed enterprise decisioning.
What You'll Do
Provenir AI is seeking a hands-on Senior Data Scientist to strengthen our applied AI research capability. This is a senior individual contributor strong applied AI experience, including practical experience developing agentic capabilities for production environments. You'll research, prototype and evaluate new approaches across agentic AI, generative AI, graph analytics and machine learning, moving from ambiguous research questions through working implementations to clear evidence about what should be productised, changed or stopped. Our platform direction is agentic-first, and you will explore how agents can improve both user experiences and the intelligence available within decisioning. This may include combining established analytical techniques with the probabilistic reasoning and interpretability of modern generative AI. You'll join Provenir's global Data Science team and work closely with Provenir AI Product and Engineering, with Data Science leading research, experimentation and evaluation while Engineering owns production software architecture, scalability and long-term operationalisation.
Your Responsibilities 🚀
- Research, prototype and evaluate new approaches across agentic AI, generative AI, machine learning and intelligent decisioning.
- Design agentic systems using reasoning, tool use, retrieval, context engineering and multi-step workflows.
- Explore agentic user experiences and reusable tools that agents can invoke within decisioning workflows.
- Combine established analytical techniques, including entity resolution and fuzzy matching, with generative AI where it improves outcomes or interpretability.
- Apply conventional machine learning and statistics where they remain the right approach, combining them with foundation models where useful.
- Define robust evaluation approaches for AI and agents, including automated testing, confidence measures and failure analysis.
- Build high-quality prototypes with a credible path to production, using strong practices for testing, version control and reproducibility.
- Work closely with Product and Provenir AI Engineering to turn ambiguous problems into reusable capabilities and transition successful research toward production.
- Take ownership of complex research areas and strengthen the wider Data Science team through mentoring and knowledge sharing.
Your Strengths and Skills 🛠️
- Hands-on experience building agentic or LLM-based capabilities, ideally for production environments, using techniques such as tool use, orchestration or retrieval.
- Highly proficient at building with AI, using modern AI development tools to accelerate coding, research, analysis and experimentation.
- Strong practical experience with foundation models and a good understanding of agent architectures, context management and probabilistic systems.
- Strong Python skills and a solid foundation in machine learning and statistics.
- Experience evaluating AI or machine-learning systems, including production behaviour, monitoring and failure modes.
- Strong product judgement, with the ability to distinguish an interesting prototype from capability that can create repeatable value.
- Strong communication skills and confidence working with Data Science, Product and Engineering teams in ambiguous problem spaces.
Although not essential, it would be great if you also have any of these strengths:
- Experience building agentic systems for regulated, high-stakes or real-time environments.
- Experience with frameworks and protocols such as LangGraph, LangChain, Spring AI or MCP.
- Experience with LLM evaluation, observability, RAG, embeddings, model adaptation or multimodal AI.
- Experience with graph analytics or connected-data problems such as entity resolution, fuzzy matching or link analysis.
- Experience with graph-native techniques such as graph embeddings, GNNs, ontology design or semantic modelling.
- Experience with AWS AI/ML services such as Bedrock, SageMaker, Neptune or EMR, plus MLflow or similar tooling.
- Experience in identity, fraud, financial crime, credit risk, customer intelligence or financial-services decisioning.
- A postgraduate degree, including a PhD, in AI, ML, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or a related field.
