Job description
Software Engineering Intern
At Zettabyte, we're on a mission to make AI compute ubiquitous, seamless, and limitless. We're building a cloud where AI just works—anywhere, anytime. "AI Power. Everywhere." Be part of the team designing the infrastructure for the AI-first world.
Why This Role Exists
We're looking for a Software Engineering Intern to help us build the systems powering our GPU cloud platform. You'll contribute to real production code across cloud-native infrastructure, platform tooling, and backend services—working alongside a senior engineering team that moves fast and ships impactful work. This is a unique opportunity for someone who's excited to work on AI infrastructure at scale in a high-growth startup. You'll own meaningful work from day one—not just tickets.
What You'll Do
- Build and maintain cloud-native services and tooling supporting our GPU cloud platform
- Work with Kubernetes to help manage, schedule, and optimize GPU workloads across clusters
- Design and implement APIs, automation scripts, and internal tooling to improve platform reliability and developer experience
- Contribute to infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment automation
- Write clean, well-documented code with testing and participate in code reviews
- Collaborate cross-functionally with infrastructure, product, and research teams to ship real features
- Leverage AI-assisted coding tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor IDE, ChatGPT, etc.) to move fast and write quality code
You'll Thrive Here If You
- Are currently pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- Have strong programming skills in Go (Golang), Python, C/C++, or similar
- Demonstrate strong math and CS fundamentals — algorithms, data structures, discrete math, or systems
- Have hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, or cloud-native technologies
- Are familiar with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure) and how infrastructure fits together
- Have worked with Git/GitHub and are comfortable in Linux/Unix environments
- Can communicate complex technical ideas clearly, in writing and in code
- Are curious, self-directed, and excited about working in an early-stage environment where your contributions matter
- Have experience with competitive programming, research, or independent technical projects
Bonus If You Have
- Experience with GPU infrastructure, NVIDIA tooling, or AI/ML workload orchestration
- Familiarity with CNI plugins, network policy, or multi-tenant Kubernetes environments
- Exposure to observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, alerting pipelines)
- Background in distributed systems or storage (NFS, object storage, high-speed networking)
- Contributions to open source cloud-native projects
Compensation & Perks
- Competitive internship stipend commensurate with experience
- Hands-on exposure to cutting-edge GPU cloud infrastructure and AI systems
- Mentorship from senior engineers with deep expertise in AI infrastructure
- Opportunity to convert to a full-time role for exceptional interns
Logistics & Compensation
- Hybrid — 3 days in office (Palo Alto), 2 days WFH
- Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
Why work at Zettabyte
- Culture: “Growth isn’t just a goal, it is built into how we work.” Emphasis on meaningful challenges and career shaping.
- Work Model: Hybrid roles in both Palo Alto, USA and Taipei, Taiwan.
- Roles: Engineering-heavy (GPU Systems, Cloud Native, Distributed Systems, Frontend, Backend, AI Infrastructure, Research Scientists) plus product and people operations.
- Notable Perks: Opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI infrastructure at scale, with direct impact on sovereign AI capabilities and global GPU deployments.
