Job description
Location: Italy
Type: Freelancer full-time
About the role
We are looking for a Technical Business Analyst freelancer to join our team and act as the bridge between our business operations and the systems that support them. The right person sits comfortably at the intersection of finance and operations on one side, and databases, integrations and ERP tooling on the other. You will not be writing production code, but you should be able to run a SQL query, read a script, follow an API spec, and generally find your way around technical work without needing a developer to hold your hand.
This role is hands-on. Expect to spend your time understanding how revenue and costs are booked, mapping those flows into an ERP configuration, migrating data between systems, setting up small instances, and connecting tools together. We need someone who can sit with a finance lead in the morning to map a process and then by the afternoon be working through a data migration, an integration spec, or an ERP module setup.
What you will do
- Translate business processes (revenue recognition, cost booking, procurement, inventory, billing, reporting) into ERP configurations and system requirements.
- Lead and execute small-to-mid scale ERP implementations and module rollouts.
- Run data migrations between systems, including cleansing, mapping, and validation.
- Set up integrations and connections between platforms (ERP, CRM, finance tools, data warehouses).
- Configure and stand up small instances of ERP and adjacent systems for testing and rollout.
- Document business processes, system architecture, and configurations clearly enough that others can follow.
- Work primarily with finance, operations, and engineering stakeholders to gather requirements and validate solutions.
- Support user acceptance testing, training, and go-live activities.
What we are looking for
Business and process side (essential):
- Strong understanding of core business processes, particularly finance: how revenue is recognised and booked, how costs flow through the P&L, how a chart of accounts is structured, and how these map into an ERP.
- Experience implementing or configuring at least one ERP system (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, Odoo, or similar).
- 3–6 years of experience in a consulting, implementation, or in-house transformation role.
- Ability to run workshops, gather requirements, and translate them into clear functional specifications.
- Excellent written and spoken English; Italian is a strong plus.
Technical side (needed, not as deep):
- Comfortable with SQL — can write queries, join tables, and investigate data without help.
- Able to read and lightly modify scripts (Python, JavaScript, or similar) to get unblocked on small tasks (vibe coding encouraged).
- Familiar with APIs and integration concepts — can read documentation and test endpoints with tools like Postman.
- Comfortable in spreadsheets at a power-user level (formulas, pivots, lookups, light scripting).
- Exposure to data migration tools, ETL workflows, or middleware is a plus.
- Not expected to be a developer. But you should not be blocked every time something technical comes up.
Mindset:
- Practical and delivery-oriented. We value people who ship over people who only design.
- Curious about the business, not just the system.
- Comfortable working with ambiguity and figuring things out independently.
Nice to have
- Experience with one of the major ERPs in a hands-on implementation capacity (not just functional advisory).
- Background in audit, accounting, or financial reporting.
- Experience working with international teams across time zones.
- Exposure to data warehousing or BI tools (Snowflake, BigQuery, Looker, Power BI, Tableau).
What we offer
- Direct exposure to senior stakeholders and real ownership of projects from day one.
- A small team where your work has visible impact.
To apply, please send your CV and a short note describing one ERP or systems implementation you have worked on, what your role was, and what you would have done differently.
