Advanced Photonic Design Engineer

QuiX Quantum is pioneering advancements in photonic quantum computing, a dynamic and rapidly evolving field. Since our founding in 2019, we have achieved world records in quantum photonic processing. As we continue to expand, we're excited to add a Photonic Design Engineer to our team. This flexible, hybrid position requires a minimum of one day in the office each week and offers work locations in Germany or the Netherlands.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and simulation of advanced photonic components using tools like Lumerical.
  • Oversee PIC layout development in IPKISS, GdsFactory, or similar, ensuring high-quality standards.
  • Drive innovation in photonic component design and contribute significantly to the internal PDK development and maintenance.
  • Automate and enhance simulation workflows using Python or similar languages.
  • Mentor junior engineers and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams using Git for code management.
  • Lead the integration of photonic designs into broader system architectures.

Required Qualifications:

  • MSc or PhD (preferred) in Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Physics or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in photonics design, with a preference for industry experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Lumerical and PIC layout tools (IPKISS, GdsFactory).
  • Advanced programming skills in Python and proficiency with Git.
  • Proven track record of project leadership and collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading PDK development with the Lumerical API.
  • Advanced knowledge of Silicon Nitride (SiN) platforms and quantum integrated photonics.
  • Familiarity with electro-optic modulators and expertise in quantum photonic applications.
