Job description

AI Engineer - Kanu AI

About Kanu AI

Every business, reduced to its essence, is three things: the data it gathers, the logic it applies, and the artifacts it produces. Kanu is an AI-agent platform that automates all three — it doesn't assist the business, it runs the work of the business.

Kanu began as the AI Cloud Engineer: an agent system that autonomously builds, deploys, and validates production infrastructure and large codebases inside a customer's own cloud account. Working with enterprise customers surfaced the insight the company is now built on — every business reduces to data, intelligence, and artifacts — so we aimed that engine at the core of business itself. Today the platform ingests the documents and emails flowing through an organization, applies the organization's own reasoning through governed, reusable AI modules, and generates finished outputs — deliverables, dashboards, models, client-facing artifacts, even full websites and forms — with a human approving every consequential step.

Adoption at our flagship customer has grown nearly 10x in the past months.

The Role

We're hiring an AI Engineer to build the core Kanu platform. You'll work across the stack — backend, AI agents, and cloud automation — on the three pillars of the product: data ingestion and flexible, user-defined ontologies; the intelligence layer (extraction agents with citations, skills, and modules that capture how organizations reason); and generative outputs, where the agent builds whatever the work requires.

You'll play a hands-on role shaping our engineering culture and shipping high-impact features that move directly into production environments inside customer clouds.

What You'll Do

  • Design, build, and maintain full-stack features: backend APIs, agent orchestration, LLM integration and optimization, evals, and cloud integrations
  • Build the platform primitives — document extraction with citation and conflict resolution, flexible entity ontologies, reusable skills and logic modules, and generative outputs (dashboards, documents, client portals)
  • Work directly with real customer workflows and iterate rapidly on practitioner feedback
  • Collaborate with product and GTM teams to deliver enterprise-ready, human-in-the-loop experiences
  • Improve reliability, performance, and testing coverage across the platform

You May Be A Fit If You

  • Have 2+ years (excluding internships) building production-grade full-stack applications
  • Are comfortable in a fast-moving, high-ownership environment
  • Communicate clearly and collaborate across teams with a bias toward action
  • Have familiarity with agent frameworks and LLM-powered products

Bonus Points

  • Experience building AI-driven, document-intelligence, or developer-tooling products
  • Experience with data platforms, search/retrieval, or schema/ontology design

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity
  • Full medical, dental & vision coverage
  • Generous PTO
  • Relocation and visa support if applicable
  • Annual team offsites

Why work at Kanu AI

  • High Impact, Small Team: With only 5 employees currently, new hires will have massive ownership over core product features and engineering culture from near-zero.
  • Cutting-Edge Work: Building autonomous AI agents that directly manipulate production cloud infrastructure — a technically challenging and frontier-pushing space.
  • Working with Fortune 500s: Opportunity to see your work directly impact large-scale enterprise customers from a very early stage.
  • Culture: Described as "fast-moving, high-ownership" with a "bias toward action."
  • Compensation: Competitive salary and equity, full medical, dental & vision coverage, and relocation/visa support if applicable.
  • Location/Remote: Based in Seattle, WA. Job postings suggest on-site or hybrid is likely given the collaborative, high-ownership nature of the early stage.
