About the Role
Our client, a growing alternative investment manager, is seeking a Business Development Director to help lead institutional fundraising and capital formation efforts across the U.S., with additional opportunities to develop relationships in Europe.
This is a senior individual contributor role for an experienced fundraising professional with a strong institutional network and demonstrated success raising capital for alternative investment strategies. The individual will own senior LP relationships, lead fundraising conversations, and help drive capital commitments across the firm's investment funds, co-investments, and future products.
The role will work closely with the CEO and senior leadership and offers the opportunity to play a significant role in the continued growth of the investment platform.
Responsibilities
- Drive institutional fundraising and capital formation efforts across the firm's investment products, funds, and co-investment opportunities.
- Develop and maintain senior relationships with institutional allocators, including pensions, endowments, foundations, insurers, OCIOs, investment consultants, RIAs, and family offices.
- Leverage existing allocator relationships to generate new capital commitments and expand the firm's institutional investor base.
- Lead senior-level LP meetings, investment discussions, due diligence processes, and allocation conversations.
- Manage institutional relationships throughout the fundraising lifecycle, including onboarding, ongoing engagement, and re-up opportunities.
- Partner with senior leadership to develop fundraising strategy, product positioning, and institutional messaging.
- Contribute to investor materials, presentations, DDQs, and other institutional communications.
- Provide market intelligence and LP feedback to investment and leadership teams to help inform product development and positioning.
- Partner with Investment, Legal, Finance, and Operations teams throughout the fundraising and investor onboarding process.
- Represent the firm at relevant institutional investor conferences, allocator meetings, and industry events.
- Selectively develop relationships with European institutional investors and other international capital sources.
Qualifications & Preferred Experience
- 10+ years of experience in institutional business development, fundraising, investor relations, capital formation, or related roles within asset management.
- Demonstrated track record of raising institutional capital for alternative investment strategies, private funds, or other sophisticated investment products.
- Deep and active network of U.S. institutional investors and allocator relationships.
- Strong understanding of institutional fundraising processes, LP due diligence, and allocator decision-making.
- Experience independently developing relationships and converting fundraising opportunities into capital commitments.
- Ability to operate effectively as a senior individual contributor while partnering closely with executive leadership and investment professionals.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and relationship management skills.
- Experience raising capital for technology, innovation, or growth-oriented investment strategies is a plus.
- European institutional fundraising experience and relationships are a plus.
- Bachelor's degree required; MBA, CFA, or other advanced credential preferred.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
