Job description

The Capture Analyst supports Spry’s pursuits from early identification through proposal handoff, with most of the work focused on research, capture planning, and pre-proposal writing. This role turns agency, incumbent, and competitor information into capture briefs and bid/no-bid inputs the Director can act on. The ideal candidate is a strong writer who can work across DoD, Federal Civilian, and National Security pursuits at once. This is a step-up role for someone ready to own pieces of capture on a small team that is still shaping how it works. The Analyst shares pipeline sourcing with the Director and Coordinator, supports teaming and price-to-win, and hands pursuits off cleanly once a bid decision is made.

What Your Day-to-Day Looks Like (Position Responsibilities)

Capture Research & Competitive Analysis

- Research agencies, missions, budgets, and procurement history to build a clear picture of each target.

- Profile incumbents and likely competitors, including their vehicles, past performance, and pricing posture where available.

- Write capture briefs that are short, sourced, and usable in pursuit decisions.

- Pull together bid/no-bid inputs so the Director can make timely calls.

Capture Planning & Pre-Proposal Writing

- Draft and maintain capture plans for assigned pursuits.

- Develop early win themes and discriminators grounded in customer research.

- Write RFI and Sources Sought responses, often on short timelines.

- Prepare past performance write-ups aligned to target requirements.

Pipeline Sourcing & Qualification

- Share opportunity sourcing with the Director and Coordinator, pulling leads from SAM.gov, GovWin, agency forecasts, and partners.

- Provide qualification inputs on fit, competition, timing, and vehicle access.

- Keep CRM records, capture plans, and teaming data current.

Teaming & Partner Coordination

- Identify potential teaming partners and assess their fit for specific pursuits.

- Track prime/sub posture, workshare, and partner commitments.

- Prepare partner materials, including capability summaries and teaming outreach.

Price-to-Win Support & Milestone Tracking

- Research labor rates and pricing history to support price-to-win analysis.

- Track RFP release, Q&A, and award milestones, and flag changes that affect pursuit timing.

Proposal Handoff & Surge Support

- Hand pursuits off to the Proposal & Growth Operations Coordinator with capture materials organized and complete.

- Support proposal surges and ad hoc leadership requests as needed.

What Success Looks Like in This Role

- Capture briefs and bid/no-bid inputs reach the Director in time to shape decisions.

- Capture plans and win themes are in place before RFP release on assigned pursuits.

- RFI and Sources Sought responses go out on time and position Spry for the follow-on solicitation.

- CRM and teaming records stay current without reminders.

- Pursuits reach the Coordinator ready for proposal work, with few gaps to backfill.

Required Qualifications

- 4 to 7 years in federal BD, capture, proposals, research, contracts, consulting, or intelligence analysis.

- Strong writing is mandatory. Finalists complete a short writing exercise.

- Working knowledge of FAR basics, contract vehicles, RFI/RFP processes, and GovWin.

- Research skills that turn messy information into a clear recommendation.

- Comfort working independently on a small team across several pursuits at once.

- U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain a security clearance. No active clearance is required; Spry sponsors clearances for eligible candidates.

Preferred Qualifications

- APMP or Shipley certification.

- Prior capture or proposal experience.

- Experience with Salesforce or a similar CRM.

- Exposure to DoD or Intelligence Community customers.

Objectives

Targeted Growth Goals

- Goal 1: Clean, Clear, and Reportable Pipeline. Shares opportunity sourcing and qualification, and keeps CRM, capture plan, and teaming data accurate so pipeline reviews reflect where pursuits actually stand.

- Goal 2: Proposal Development & Win Support Objectives. Delivers capture plans, win themes, and research that give proposal teams a stronger starting point.

- Goal 3: Growth & New Business Objectives. Supports positioning on DoD, Federal Civilian, and National Security pursuits through RFI responses, teaming, and early customer research.

- Goal 4: Metrics-Driven Proof Points for Past Performance Database / Resume. Writes past performance summaries that tie Spry’s work to measurable outcomes the team can reuse.

Why This Role Matters

- It gives the Director dedicated capture support, so bid decisions rest on research rather than instinct.

- It moves capture work earlier in the cycle, before RFP release.

- It improves the quality of what reaches the Coordinator at proposal handoff.

- It adds capture capacity to a small team that is still setting its tools and standards, with room to grow as the BD organization does.
