Job description

ABOUT CLAY

Our mission is to help organizations turn any growth idea into reality.

We see growth as a creative practice, not a formula. Finding and reaching your best-fit customers takes unique ideas and constant iteration. As AI makes execution faster and tactics easier to copy, creativity is the only lasting advantage. We're already helping thousands of customers clayrun.notion.site — including Anthropic, Notion, Google, and Ramp — go to market with unique data, signals, and AI research.

In 2025, we raised a $100M Series C nytimes.com by world-class investors including Sequoia, CapitalG, and First Round — and crossed $100M in revenue.

In 2026, we announced our second employee tender offer nytimes.com in 9 months at a new $5B valuation. We also launched a community equity round clay.com for our customers, agency partners, and club members.

THE ROLE

We're looking for a Data Science Manager to lead Clay's Data Science and Analytics team (DSA). DSA is a team of data scientists and analytics engineers that serves as the company's center of excellence for experimentation, metric design, insights, and data-driven decision-making across all areas of the business (Product, Marketing, Sales, Finance, and Partnerships). The manager of this team will be a key leader in setting product and business strategy: partnering with executives to meet ideas with numbers and set the internal narrative and focus using data.

The team has strong foundations and is at the forefront of AI for data: we’ve basically solved the self-serve analytics problem via our custom in-house AI agent “Monty.” We’re looking for a strong leader with strong data intuition, product and business acumen, and data storytelling skills who can multiply this team’s strategic influence on one of the fastest-growing AI businesses.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Lead and grow the team. Manage and develop data scientists and analytics engineers. Recruit, interview, and onboard top talent as the team scales. Create shared standards for what great data work looks like, and coach the team to get there. Establish rituals that build team cohesion and support technical growth.

Set the technical bar. Hold high standards for experimentation, analysis, insights, metric design, and data modeling. Ensure that Clay remains at the forefront of the latest innovations in AI for data science and analytics.

Relentlessly focus on impact. Ensure the team is making the right tradeoffs. Keep the team focused on work that actually changes decisions and meaningfully impacts the business trajectory of Clay, and leave the rest.

Strategically partner and prioritize across the business. Own staffing across partner areas to ensure every key stakeholder has the support they need, while holding a high bar for impact and pushing back where needed. Ensure partners are making data-informed decisions, and that they have the tooling, insights, and partnership they need to do so.

Shape product and business strategy. Directly inform what we prioritize using data; opportunity size new potential areas for investment and proactively identify potential new directions through analysis and insights. Set the narrative internally using numbers.

Define our key measurement frameworks. Partner with stakeholders to define our business and product goals. Lead the development and championing of key metrics; ensure our most important metrics are properly instrumented and monitored. Create a data-obsessed organization.

Develop a deep understanding of and empathy for our users. Partner with UXR and customer feedback teams to create the most comprehensive understanding of what Clay users, buyers, and prospects want and need.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

2+ years managing data scientists and/or analytics engineers, and 6+ years overall in data science or analytics, with a track record of shipping work that has directly influenced product and business decisions

Strong technical depth in experimentation, analytics, statistics, data modeling, and metric design; can coach and set a high technical bar for senior ICs

Expertise in product or growth data science: an expert-level understanding of user funnels (acquisition, activation, engagement, retention) in B2B or B2C products

Skilled at stakeholder management: comfortable partnering with senior leaders across Product, GTM, and Finance, and pushing back when needed

Proven experience influencing product roadmaps via data and insights, and the proven ability to connect data work to business outcomes

Excellent data storytelling skills

An empathetic communicator who expresses nuanced ideas clearly for different audiences and prioritizes curiosity and partnership

Experience growing teams: hiring, coaching, and developing senior ICs

Excitement about AI-native ways of working

NICE TO HAVE

Experience with our stack: Snowflake, GitHub, dbt, Hex, Sigma, Dagster

Experience in product-led growth or B2B SaaS, especially usage-based pricing

Experience running embedded/hub-and-spoke data team models

Experience scaling a data team through rapid company growth
