Job description

We're Hiring: Materials & Process Engineer Full-Time | Core Team LAT Aerospace | Aircraft

LAT Aerospace is developing next-generation aerospace systems from first principles. This includes a hybrid electric aircraft that takes off and lands within a space of a parking lot, Defence systems built from ground up and scalable Gas Turbine Engines. The Materials & Process Engineer role sits at the intersection of materials science, structural engineering, testing, and manufacturing. You will research and qualify materials for different aircraft applications, build reliable material databases and models, and translate those results into repeatable manufacturing processes.

What you'll do

  • Research and evaluate composite materials for different aircraft structures and operating environments.
  • Develop and characterize CFRP, GFRP, and honeycomb sandwich structures for primary and secondary aircraft applications.
  • Understand material behaviour under tensile, compressive, shear, bearing, fatigue, and environmental loading.
  • Design and execute coupon-level material characterization and validation programs.
  • Develop and maintain material allowables, databases, and material models for structural analysis.
  • Correlate material models and FEA with experimental test data.
  • Develop and validate adhesive systems, including adhesive selection, characterization, modelling, and manufacturing application.
  • Characterise different layup techniques, tooling boards and assembly techniques.
  • Develop manufacturing processes that improve and quantify repeatability, quality, and scalability of composite structures using statistical analysis.
  • Work closely with structural design, manufacturing, and testing teams to translate material technology into production-ready aircraft hardware.
  • Investigate material and manufacturing failures and drive improvements through testing and process iteration.

What we're looking for

  • 3-4 years of hands-on composite manufacturing experience in aerospace or high-performance builds.
  • Postgraduate degree (M.Tech/MS/PhD) in Materials, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong fundamentals in mold design, layup development, prepreg/autoclave processing, and cure cycle optimization.
  • Deep understanding of composite mechanics, failure modes, material characterization, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience designing and executing coupon and sub-component testing programs.
  • Strong understanding of adhesives, bonding processes, and adhesive characterization/modelling.
  • Experience developing material databases, allowables, and inputs for structural analysis.
  • Strong statistical/data analysis skills for understanding material and manufacturing variability and establishing process repeatability.
  • Comfortable troubleshooting on the floor and working in fast-paced prototyping environments.
  • Experience with non-destructive testing (UT, thermography, tap testing) and quality inspection methods.

Why LAT?

  • No hierarchy beyond strength of ideas.
  • Rapid hardware iteration culture.
  • Own the complete journey from engineering design to flight-ready hardware.

Why work at LAT Aerospace Private

  • Build from Scratch: Opportunity to work on ambitious, first-principles aerospace engineering across aircraft, engines, and autonomy – with rapid prototyping and flight testing.
  • Culture & Mission: Focus on solving hard problems for India, with a flat structure and ownership. The founders emphasize "build, break, and repeat" and seek engineers who want to "rewrite history." lat.com/careers
  • Work Location & Policy: Roles are based in Bangalore, India (on-site). The nature of hardware/aircraft development requires physical presence in workshops, labs, and test sites.
  • Team & Growth: 39 employees with strong technical depth; high growth trajectory (1416% YoY). Access to cutting-edge aerospace R&D.
  • Perks: Not explicitly detailed, but the environment is suited for engineers and scientists passionate about aerospace, propulsion, and defence independence.
