We are seeking an experienced Safety Engineer to support the health and safety compliiance of our construction projects.  This role will require frequent weekly travel to project sites throughout the New York and Northeast..

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in proactively planning and implementing Schimenti’s safety program to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment
  • Conduct work area surveillance inspections, air sampling tests for confined space entry, property damage and personal injury investigations
  • Document all accidents, safety violations, unsafe conditions/activities. Issue confined area entry and “hot work” permits as required
  • Assist in conducting employee, health and insurance inspectors on walk-throughs at site visits
  • Coordinate/ assist in preparing written appeals for safety violation citations.
  • Identification of Safety exposures: Conduct various industrial hygiene samplings, such as gas, 02, noise test to ensure safe working conditions
  • Incident resolution- compile data, photographs, etc.; prepare all pertinent forms and reports per program procedures and federal, state, local regulations associated with accidents
  • Identify, document and recommend resolution of hazardous/potential hazardous conditions; follow through to ensure corrections have been made
  • Provide recommendations and assistance to Project Managers and Superintendents in regards to job site hazards, employee training, new/safe equipment operation, and safe material or substance utilization
  • Remain current on federal, state, county, and local safety regulations
  • Understand NYC Department of Building code, Chapter 33 and stay up to date with any amendments
  • Initiate, support, and help coordinate safety training courses with team members

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or related field preferred
  • 5+ years of experience within the construction industry within a safety role
  • Ability to travel up to 95% of the week to various project locations
  • High energy and drive, and an ability to work independently in a trustworthy manner
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate and partner effectively at every level of the organization
  • OSHA 30
  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation
