Job description

Do you love to obsess over security? Are you one of the most ambitious people you know? If so, you'll be right at home at Unwrap.

We are seeking a Security Engineer to lead Unwrap's security and compliance program. You'll sit within our engineering team, scale our security program, and protect the data our customers trust us with.

Specifically, you will:

  • Scale Unwrap’s security program. Set the roadmap, prioritize by real risk, and report on risk directly to leadership.
  • Build systems that continuously improve our security systems as the industry and technology evolve.
  • Be the voice of security risk. Take and defend clear positions on product, architecture, and vendor risk, and lead fast security reviews.
  • Think about the future. Evolve identity and permissions for our AI and agent features, and work with leadership and engineering on cloud hardening, secure SDLC, and SOC 2.

This is an in-person role in beautiful Santa Barbara, CA. Our office is downtown, walking distance to great restaurants, coffee shops, and the beach.

Who We Are

We’re currently a team of 40, based in Santa Barbara, and growing extremely quickly. We are venture-backed, and raised our $12M Series A from world-leading VCs. Our customers include leading companies across many industries, like Stripe, Perplexity, DoorDash, Microsoft, lululemon, WHOOP, Oura, Clay, and many more.

Unwrap.ai is on a mission to fill the world with products people love. We do this by helping companies understand their customers like never before. Specifically, we ingest feedback from thousands of sources (support channels, surveys, social), use state-of-the-art NLP technology to extract actionable insights, and empower teams to take action on these insights to ship better products.

Our founders, two ex-Amazon Alexa Product Managers, were tired of manually sifting through customer reviews, support tickets, and bugs while working on Alexa. They understood the importance of listening to customers and prioritizing their requests effectively, but simply had too much feedback to parse through. So,unwrap.aiUnwrap.ai was born to solve this problem.

Our small team is extremely motivated, hard-working, and simply gets stuff done. If this sounds exciting, we can't wait to read your application.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years in security engineering, detection engineering, or incident response, including time as a senior IC or technical lead.
  • Broad technical depth across compute, network, and storage, so you can judge real risk across the stack.
  • Nice to have: detection-as-code, using LLMs in security workflows, securing AI systems, container security, vendor or M&A security reviews, or threat intel and forensics.
  • You are excited about working at a startup pace. The role frequently requires more than the 9-5 commitment, but you’re excited for the impact and autonomy that provides.
  • Located in or willing to relocate to Santa Barbara and excited about working in-person 5 days a week.
  • Teammates love working with you.

What You Get

  • Significant, potentially life-changing equity.
  • The chance to build Unwrap's security program from the ground up with a direct line to leadership.
  • Learn about and have influence over all parts of the business, including finance, people, fundraising, product, etc.
  • Ability to rapidly advance your career alongside company growth.
  • Collaborate with experienced teammates, entrepreneurs, and advisors.

Why work at Unwrap

  • Culture: Described as a “tight-knit team that moves fast, works hard, and actually enjoys the ride” with a focus on building great products and collaborating on big ideas without taking themselves too seriously.
  • Work policy: Hybrid and remote options available (Santa Barbara HQ with in-office presence; some roles listed as remote or hybrid on Built In).
  • Growth: Rapid headcount growth and a Series A raise signal strong momentum. Employees have the chance to shape the product and culture early.
  • Engineering culture: Strong technical team (29% of workforce in technical roles), with many engineers from Amazon, AppFolio, and other tech companies.
