Job description

Who is Shift?

At Shift, we’re business specialists dedicated to helping Australian SMEs take control of their cashflow, streamline trade terms and choose the right financial products.

We believe Australian businesses are the driving force behind our economy and are core to our communities. That’s why our business expertise, focus on relationships, and market-leading technology is at the core of everything we do. We’ve helped solve the credit and payment pain points for more than 30,000 businesses, providing over $6 billion in aggregate funding.

Our unique approach to product innovation combined with our collaborative culture means you can build your career in a supportive environment. You’ll be joining a diverse team of over 300 people who are always looking to deliver better outcomes for Australian businesses. About the role:

We are building something new! Join us at an exciting time as we launch Walker St, a new data-driven business venture within Shift. Backed by the resources of an established company and powered by a startup spirit, we’re creating tools that help businesses unlock the power of their banking data. We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer who’s excited to build modern, scalable systems from the ground up. This is a chance to work on a greenfield product, influence technical decisions, and be part of shaping an inclusive and collaborative engineering culture from day one.

What you’ll do:

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable full-stack web applications using C#, .NET, React, and other modern technologies.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and product managers to deliver high-impact features and improvements.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and help build a reliable microservices-based system.
  • Ensure high standards of code quality, testing, and documentation.
  • Support the team’s DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud infrastructure (Azure).
  • Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and mentoring where needed.
  • Embrace agile ways of working, continuous learning, and a user-first mindset.

What you’ll bring:

  • 6+ years of experience building software with C# and .NET.
  • Solid understanding of RESTful APIs and event-driven microservices.
  • Experience with Azure or other cloud platforms.
  • Familiarity with modern DevOps practices and tools (e.g. GitHub Actions, TeamCity, Octopus).
  • A mindset that values testing, quality, and reliable delivery.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills - you’re comfortable working cross functionally and contributing your ideas in a team setting.
  • A passion for learning and solving problems – we’re big on curiosity over credentials.

Key benefits:

  • Collaborative teams – a flat structure means everyone can learn from colleagues and senior leaders around the business.
  • Be involved – come together with all of your colleagues every 100 days to share the product and technology roadmap and business strategy.
  • Flexible working environment – we’re headquartered in North Sydney with state-based workplaces and offer a flexible work policy.
  • Family support – industry leading 26 weeks paid parental leave.
  • Purpose built spaces within our office – designed for collaboration, brainstorming, socialising, and focused work.
  • Range of benefits supporting your physical, psychological and financial wellbeing. From a day off on your birthday to excellent end of trip facilities.
