Airwallex at a glance

Airwallex is a global financial platform that lets businesses open multi-currency accounts, move money across borders, issue cards, and embed financial services through its own proprietary infrastructure.

Airwallex gives global businesses one platform for cross-border money: multi-currency business accounts, payments acceptance, corporate cards and spend management, billing, FX and treasury, and APIs to embed financial services. It runs on proprietary infrastructure and 85+ financial licenses rather than reselling legacy bank rails.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The Engineering team at Airwallex is a diverse group of innovators, builders, and problem solvers, driven by a mission to empower businesses to operate anywhere, anytime. We thrive in a collaborative and fast-paced environment, where we're constantly pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the financial technology space. As a team, we value technical craftsmanship, continuous learning, and a strong sense of ownership, working together to build scalable, reliable, and secure products that empower businesses of all sizes to grow without borders.

A key part of Airwallex’s suite of Business Account software, the Spend Management team is revolutionizing the way businesses issue credit cards and manage expenses for their employees. This team solves complex challenges around the growing demands of data and feature complexity in credit cards and expenses. We work at the intersection of our backend infrastructure and customer facing applications, and we build distributed systems that manage millions of transactions.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

You will design and build the backend services that power Airwallex’s global financial platform, with a specific focus on the Spend team under the Accounting Hub. You will work on services that underpin how customers track, reconcile and account for spend transactions, ensuring accuracy, reliability and compliance of financial data. You will own features end to end, from technical design and implementation through to production operation, while helping shape the long-term architecture of our backend systems in the Spend and Accounting domains. You will partner closely with product, infrastructure and other engineering teams, and play a key role in raising the engineering bar through high-quality code and technical mentorship.

This role is based in Melbourne.

  • Contribute to the architecture and long-term technical vision of our backend systems.
  • Own end-to-end delivery of new features and improvements—from design to production.
  • Write high-quality, testable code with attention to reliability and maintainability.
  • Promote and uphold engineering best practices, including observability and API design.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, infrastructure, and design.
  • Provide technical mentorship and support the growth of other engineers on the team.
