Summary

This role focuses on removing engineering toil by implementing an automation-first mindset for test coverage and environment reliability. The engineer designs test strategies, builds robust test frameworks, and ensures the stability of release-critical environments to enable fast, stable releases.

Job description

Role highlights:

  • Senior Test Automation Developer
  • Location: Espoo, Finland
  • Department: Release Engineering
  • Reports to: Release Engineering Manager
  • Employment type: Permanent
  • Workplace model: Hybrid / Office
  • Employment is subject to applicable security screening (incl. SUPO)

Why this role matters: Testing and environment reliability are often the hidden tax on engineering velocity - slow feedback, flaky environments, and manual processes that quietly drain team capacity. This role exists to systematically remove that toil. By bringing an automation-first mindset to everything from test coverage to environment management, this engineer keeps feedback fast, releases stable, and quality high. They don't just maintain the testing discipline - they elevate it, coaching teams and building the kind of automated foundations that let engineering move with confidence. The result is less time fighting fires, more time shipping.

Who We Are

ICEYE is the world leader in sovereign intelligence from space. We deliver persistent monitoring capabilities to detect and respond to changes in any location on Earth. ICEYE owns the world's largest and most advanced SAR (synthetic aperture radar) satellite constellation. To our customers we provide intelligence with unmatched quality, latency and revisit times, in any weather, day or night. To governments who choose to operate their own constellation we provide this proven capability as a sovereign system. ICEYE-built constellations serve customers in defence and intelligence, environmental monitoring, insurance and emergency management. We enable fast decisions that contribute to a safer future. Founded and headquartered in Finland, ICEYE operates globally with over 1000 employees across Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.

Your day-to-day responsibilities

  • Dig into system behaviour, risks, and release goals to work out what genuinely needs testing - and what doesn't
  • Define test goals, scope, and strategies across component, integration, and system levels
  • Own the reliability of release-critical environments and satellite test assets, keeping them stable through automation
  • Design, write, and maintain automated and manual tests, building test frameworks to production-code standards
  • Get hands-on with the system - exploring, validating, and challenging behaviour in areas that matter most to releases
  • Guide and enable engineering teams on what to test, why it matters, and how to do it well
  • Continuously sharpen test strategies and automation based on real outcomes, defects, and release feedback

What we’re looking for

Must haves:

  • Five or more years of recent hands-on experience in test automation, building and maintaining test frameworks
  • Strong, production-quality coding ability in [primary language(s), e.g. Python / Java / C++]
  • Track record of owning test strategy and deciding what to test across component, integration, and system levels
  • Hands-on experience making complex, production-like test environments reliable through automation
  • A bias to action: spots manual or fragile work and automates it fast, without waiting for perfect process

Nice to haves:

  • Exposure to specialist testing types such as performance, security, or hardware / hardware-in-the-loop testing
  • Experience mentoring engineers or acting as a technical lead on testing
  • Experience with observability or self-service tooling for test environments
