Job description
Equal1 is building the world’s first practical, fully integrated quantum computer. In Timișoara, we are expanding our engineering team with talented young engineers who want to shape the software foundations of quantum computing.
We are looking for a Software Stack / Framework Engineer who is passionate about bridging classical computing with next-generation quantum architectures in hybrid architectures. You will help design, implement, and optimize the software layers that make the Equal1 QPU accessible, fast, and scalable, from low-level gate libraries to high-level developer frameworks.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain the software stack that interfaces with Equal1’s silicon-based QPU.
- Build tools, APIs, and frameworks that enable researchers and customers to run quantum programs efficiently.
- Collaborate with hardware, algorithms, and control teams to design hybrid classical–quantum workflows.
- Optimize middleware, compilers, and library components for performance and reliability.
- Contribute to continuous integration, testing, and system-level validation.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong programming skills (Python, C/C++, or similar).
- Solid understanding of computer architecture, embedded systems, compilers, or distributed systems.
- Knowledge of LLVM / MLIR compiler infrastructure or compilation strategies is a plus
- Familiarity with quantum computing concepts (gate models, qubits, noise) is a plus—deep expertise is not required.
- Curiosity, creativity, and the ability to work across classical and quantum paradigms.
- Desire to grow long-term in an emerging, cutting-edge field.
- Join us if you want to help build the software foundation of a new computing era.
Why work at Equal1
- Work Environment: "Hybrid by default" — employees work across offices in Ireland, Netherlands, US, Canada, and Romania
- Culture: Rated 5.0/5.0 on employer review sites (Work-Life: 5.0, Compensation: 5.0, Culture: 5.0, Career: 5.0)
- Team: Small (~38 people), highly technical (26% technical, 15% research), with talent from Intel (5 alumni), University College Dublin (7), TNO, Qualcomm, and Movidius
- Impact: You'd be building deployable quantum infrastructure that's already shipping — not just doing research
- Career Growth: Open roles include VP of Quantum Software Engineering, Quantum Error Correction Lead, Senior Verification Engineer, Spin Qubit Calibration Engineer — indicating serious scaling of the engineering team
- Notable: Employees have gone on to Stanford, PsiQuantum, Qualcomm — showing the team is deeply embedded in the quantum ecosystem
