Job description

About Sandbar

Sandbar is an interface company in New York City. We aim to augment individuals so we can each think, act, and move more freely. Our team has built SW, ML, and HW products across Meta, CTRL-labs, Google, Apple, Fitbit, Peloton, and Equinox.

Our first product, Stream, is a self extension—a private voice ring and conversational interface. Stream has been featured in WSJ, Bloomberg, & Wired, and begins shipping in Summer '26.

Join us in creating technology that extends human thinking.

About

We’re looking for a staff iOS product engineer to help build Stream, a new conversational interface. The Stream iOS app touches every aspect of our user experience; including device-cloud connectivity, on-device processing, UIUX, and more. You’ll work closely with design, firmware, and backend engineers to create a technically rigorous experience that ultimately feels simple.

Responsibilities

  • Own iOS product delivery—including architecture (Swift), metrics-driven optimization, testing, and releases
  • Work closely with backend services (Websocket) and device integrations (BLE) for low-latency, always-available human-computer interactions
  • Work with product, design, and GTM to ship releases, gather insights, iterate, and improve our experiences for end-users

Qualifications

  • 8+ years building and shipping interactive mobile (iOS) applications
  • Strong proficiency in Swift and complex interactive app development.
  • Deep experience in OS-level integrations such as media control or on-device ML
  • Experience in Python-based servers and the iOS Bluetooth stack are a plus
  • Strong interdisciplinary communication
  • Strong ownership, comfort with ambiguity, and technical output
  • Passion for end-user delight and human-computer interfaces

FTE Benefits

  • Health, vision, and dental benefits
  • Company-sponsored 401(k)
  • Unlimited PTO and sick time
  • Early stage equity

Why work at Sandbar

  • Mission-Driven & Cutting-Edge: The opportunity to work on a genuinely new computing paradigm—a conversational interface that could fundamentally change how people interact with technology in their daily lives.
  • Talent Density & Pedigree: The team is small (16 people) but composed of engineers and operators from top-tier companies like Meta, Apple, Peloton, and Equinox, offering a high-velocity, high-impact environment.
  • Full-Stack & Multi-Disciplinary: Engineers and designers work across a wide stack (hardware, firmware, software, ML, AI) on challenging real-time problems.
  • Culture: The company describes itself as "small," with a focus on speed, iteration, and craft. The founders are active and visible, sharing the company’s technical philosophy publicly.
  • Location & Flexibility: The company is headquartered in New York City (HQ) with a presence in Germany. While office presence is implied (hardware development), there is a distributed element to the team. Perks or specific policy (remote/hybrid) are not explicitly stated but are likely high-flexibility given the small team and talent profile.
