Bogotá anchors the 2 Colombian cities we track and holds most of the fintech hiring. Barranquilla contributes a meaningful share on top of that. Medellín deserves a mention too, given its reinvention into an innovation hub over the past decade. The market is more spread across a few centers than most of its regional peers.

Rappi is the standout, having grown from a Bogotá delivery app into a regional super-app spanning food, payments, and errands. Around it sits a growing fintech scene concentrated in the capital. Low costs and a large talent pool keep pulling in investment and nearshore engineering work. Delivery, payments, and marketplace roles are where most of the hiring shows up.

Fintech leads the domestic scene, centered on Bogotá. Delivery and marketplace work is the other big category, with Rappi as the obvious anchor. On top of that, a lot of nearshore engineering for US companies runs through Colombia, much of it remote. Full-stack and backend engineers find the widest range of options across all three.

Colombia is one of Latin America's fastest-growing tech markets, split between Bogotá's fintech push and Medellín's well-documented reinvention as an innovation hub. Cost of living is low, which is a big part of why investment and nearshore work keep arriving. The trade is familiar for the region: local salaries are modest, and the best-paying roles are often remote for a US company rather than local. For engineers who can land that remote work, the value goes a long way.

The formal route is a Migrant (M) visa with work authorization. As with the rest of Latin America, though, much of the US-facing tech work is remote or nearshore rather than a relocation. That means moving to Colombia for a tech job is less common than the visa process might imply. The honest picture is a remote-first reality, where foreign companies hire Colombian engineers far more often than foreigners move in.
