Urschel, a 100% employee-owned company, is seeking dependable and energetic hospitality professionals to join the opening team of the new Grand Gardner Hotel as a Barback. The Grand Gardner Hotel is an Urschel Development property located in Downtown Valparaiso, IN. Urschel Development is a fully owned subsidiary of Urschel Laboratories located in Chesterton, Indiana.
This independent boutique hotel is located on a quiet, tree-lined street just steps away from downtown Valparaiso. Designed to feel welcoming to both guests and employees, it features 58 rooms and suites, a speakeasy, banquets space and inviting shared spaces. This is a place built on teamwork, hands-on training, and growth. Pay starts at $15.00/hour + tips

The Barback is responsible for supporting bartenders and maintaining a clean, organized, and fully stocked bar environment to ensure efficient operations and exceptional guest service. This role assists with stocking liquor, beer, wine, mixers, garnishes, glassware, and ice, while ensuring all bar stations remain prepared for service throughout each shift. The Barback also supports inventory organization, assists with beverage deliveries, changes kegs, removes trash and recyclables, and helps maintain cleanliness in all bar and storage areas.
The ideal candidate is a team-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced hospitality environment and takes pride in supporting exceptional guest experiences. Requirements include strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to anticipate operational needs while working efficiently alongside bartenders and other Food & Beverage team members. Physical requirements are significant, including the ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds, move full kegs and beverage cases, push loaded carts, and remain standing and walking for extended periods. Previous restaurant, bar, or hospitality experience is preferred but not required.
