DevOps Engineer - China

On any given day at thatgamecompany, you might:

  • Design, implement and maintain scalable, secure, and reliable cloud infrastructure globally
  • Design and implement infrastructure as code and configuration as code
  • Optimize server deployment strategies for rapid scaling during peak player loads
  • Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting systems for game service
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines specifically tailored for game service developments and deployments
  • Support development teams by developing and maintaining local development environments and rapid iteration cycles
  • Design and implement internal services and tools serving engineers company-wide for quality and efficiency

Required Skills

  • 3 or more years of experience in DevOps for live service games or related products.
  • Strong background in at least one cloud provider (AWS, GCP, AliCloud etc.)
  • Proficiency in infrastructure as code (Terraform/OpenTofu, or similar)
  • Proficiency in container-based application development and deployment (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm).
  • Solid Knowledge of observability solutions such as Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, and related toolchains
  • Proficiency in at least one of backend development languages such as Python, Golang, C/C++, Jenkins Groovy etc. Familiar with one of web development languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP etc.
  • Proficiency in GitOps patterns and tooling such as ArgoCD, FluxCD, Terragrunt, etc.
  • Experience in designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Tekton, GitHub Actions).
  • Strong understanding of source control systems (Git, Perforce).
  • Solid knowledge of network technologies such as TCP/UDP, CDN, mTLS, load balancer, Global Accelerator etc.
  • Knowledge of database technologies (Redis, PostgreSQL, MongoDB) for high-throughput applications
  • Fluency in writing REST APIs and applying software patterns like TDD.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies and software release management practices. Capable of understanding English documentation.
  • Fluent in written English for technical communications in chat tools. Be able to speak English for daily life.

Preferred Skills

Any of the following would be highly preferred, but we prioritize candidates eager to innovate and grow:

  • Advanced Kubernetes skills (application development and platform management).
  • Experience implementing service mesh systems (Istio)
  • Experience implementing internal development platforms (serving for developer, QA, release manager etc.)
