About the Position

We are looking for an energetic and driven Legal Counsel to join our Legal and Compliance team in Hong Kong, focusing on our China business development. In this role, you’ll provide clear and practical advice to teams across the firm and help draft, review and negotiate trading-related contracts for our Asia business, with a particular focus on China.

The types of agreements that you will help draft and negotiate include derivatives documents, commodities purchase agreements, broker agreements, terms of business, NDAs and financing agreements. We will also rely on you to:

  • Respond to inquiries regarding existing and new contracts
  • Provide direct legal support to the desk on new business initiatives
  • Liaise with external counsel and other external advisers
  • Negotiate with counterparties in China and other jurisdictions

While your daily work will focus on Hong Kong and China, you may also advise colleagues more broadly across our office locations worldwide.

About You

  • Have 3-8 years of PQE on a corporate and/or finance team (e.g., derivatives, credit, M&A) within leading law firms or financial institutions
  • Experienced with drafting and negotiating contracts
  • Able to stay organised with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, and able to handle competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent writer and speaker; strong negotiator
  • Self-motivated and flexible team player
  • Positive, responsible and professional in attitude and presence
  • Collaborative and able to clearly articulate your approach, analysis and conclusions
  • Comfortable working on problems that rarely have clean, definitive answers
  • Native in Mandarin and fluent in English, both in speaking and writing
