Job description

Thomas & Hutton has an immediate opening for a motivated and driven Structural Bridge Engineer (PE) in Charleston, SC.

The candidate will be involved in the design, drafting and construction services for a large variety of structures for both internal and external clients, public and private. Markets for structural services include industrial, marine, institutional, residential and energy. Structures may include, but are not limited to, piers, wharves, bridges, drainage and water control structures, retaining walls, and more.  Designs will predominantly include concrete and structural steel.

What You'll Do

Typical duties include:

  • Perform structural analysis and design.
  • Create construction documents, including drawings and specifications.
  • Perform structural condition assessments of existing structures and write reports.
  • Coordinate and work with other engineers during design.
  • Communicate and interact with clients and contractors periodically, providing high levels of client service.
  • Ensure project designs are completed in accordance with code requirements.
  • Perform construction services, including reports, site visits and responding to contractor questions.

What You Bring

Minimum Requirements:

Experience: 5+ years of structural design experience, including bridges.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, structural emphasis.  US PE Licensure required.

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency drafting with Revit required and experience with AutoCAD desired.
  • Experience with Excel or Mathcad, OpenBridge, AASHTOWare Bridge Rating, and/or other bridge design software.
  • Ability to multi-task, appropriately prioritize workflow and complete tasks within budget.
  • Must be a self-starter and be able to work with team members.
  • Ability to perform field work for assessments and construction observation in a variety of environments.
  • Ability to solve problems and evaluate a variety of options.
  • Ability to periodically travel to other offices.
  • Excellent time management skills.
