Email Designer at Superpower (San Francisco, CA)
Superpower· San Francisco, CA·
Role details
Job description
Type: Full-time Location: San Francisco / Remote
About the Role
Email is one of our most important storytelling channels at Superpower, and we want a designer who owns it. You’ll design the emails our members get at every stage: lifecycle flows, onboarding, results notifications, product launches, newsletters and promotional campaigns. Your job is to make every send look sharp, read clearly and get people to take action. You’ll work closely with our design and content teams. Content brings the words and the strategy, design sets the brand standard, and you turn both into emails that perform. When the team needs extra hands on a marketing campaign or a product moment, you’ll pitch in. Email is your home base, but nobody here is boxed into one channel. We call this “founder mode” for design. You’re in the weeds, you ship, and you go looking for the places that need help most.
What You'll Do
- Own email design end to end, from lifecycle and automated flows to campaigns, newsletters and transactional emails
- Partner with the content team on structure, hierarchy and how copy and visuals work together in the inbox
- Work with the design team to keep email aligned with the brand system, and help extend that system with email components and templates
- Build modular, reusable templates that let the team ship faster without losing quality
- Design for how email actually renders: mobile first, dark mode, and the quirks of different email clients
- Use performance data (open rates, click-through, conversion) to shape your designs, and run tests to find what works
- Ship fast. Action produces information, so your first version doesn’t need to be perfect. It needs to exist.
- Give and receive direct feedback. Radical candor is how we raise the bar together.
What You Bring
- 3–6+ years of design experience across brand, digital, product, or a combination, with a strong focus on digital
- A portfolio that shows range: product screens, campaign work, web design, and a few pieces outside digital marketing
- Strong fundamentals in typography, layout, color, hierarchy, and interaction design
- An understanding of how email renders across clients and devices
- Comfort with ambiguity and context-switching — you can reprioritize quickly without losing quality
- Speed and craft. You don’t treat them as opposites.
- Proficiency in Figma. Familiarity with prototyping, basic motion, or front-end code is a bonus
- Self-directed and proactive. You ask "how would I act if this were my company?" and then do it
- Genuine care about health, wellness, or human performance
Nice to Have
- HTML/CSS email coding
- Experience with Klaviyo, Customer.io, Braze or similar
- Lifecycle or CRM design work with results to show
- Motion, GIF or video skills
- Early-stage startup experience
- Health, wellness or mission-driven background
