Senior Database Administrator at Midas (Turkey)
Midas· Turkey·
Role details
Job description
At Midas, we are working on real-life engineering challenges to transform the world of finance. We’ve transformed investing in Turkey by delivering a seamless experience for everyday investors. Today, 4 million users invest with Midas. Backed by an $80M Series B, the largest fintech investment ever in Turkey, we are scaling faster than ever.
What You'll Do: Design, architect, and operate scalable, robust systems across critical data infrastructure to support high-throughput operations. Own the day-to-day administration, tuning, and continuous improvement of our datastores — including backups, recovery, replication, capacity planning, and performance optimization. Work with product and cross-functional teams to deliver maximum customer value and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Own end-to-end delivery, including performance monitoring, observability, and proactive incident management in production environments. Provide technical guidance and foster best practices within the Datastore, Messaging, and Reliability domain through knowledge sharing and peer reviews. Lead the operational excellence, scaling, and continuous improvement of PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, and Elasticsearch systems, ensuring high availability, performance, and strong reliability practices.
What You'll Bring: Experience solving large-scale problems for millions of users through scalable and reliable systems. Extensive hands-on experience in database administration, with deep expertise in PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, and Elasticsearch. Strong background in production reliability, including high availability, disaster recovery, replication, and performance tuning at scale. Experience working within large and complex technical ecosystems, with strong database management and data streaming expertise. Ability to navigate technical and organizational dependencies, balancing trade-offs with partner teams and aligning technical strategy with business priorities. Solid understanding of monitoring, observability, and incident management practices in production environments. Nice to have: Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, particularly using StatefulSets for stateful workloads. Nice to have: Working knowledge of SQL Server, TimescaleDB, and Altibase.
Why work at Midas
- Culture: Described as a fast-growing fintech with a flat hierarchy and a focus on ownership. However, Glassdoor-style ratings are low (2.0/5.0 based on 3 reviews) – take with caution. The large number of ex-employees from top Turkish tech companies (Trendyol, Getir, Papara) suggests a competitive talent environment.
- Remote/Hybrid Policy: Not explicitly stated, but offices in Istanbul (Uskudar and Üsküdar). Likely hybrid given the tech-heavy workforce.
- Engineering Culture: Strong emphasis on modern tools (Kubernetes, GitOps, observability stack). Engineering makes up ~43% of the workforce (149 out of 350). Active hiring for senior and lead engineering roles.
- Perks: Not detailed, but as a well-funded Series B company, likely offers competitive compensation (4.0/5.0 compensation rating) and equity.
